quints by surprise

Did anyone watch this tonight?

They tried for one more baby and had an IUI and got 5.

Re: quints by surprise

  • We don't have cable but I was wondering about that...how it was "by surprise" anyway. So she wasn't on any meds (i.e. clomid)?

I totally agree.  I hate seeing IF treatments publicized like this.

Like someone would be totally stunned by conceiving that many babies when they know full well how many follies they're triggering.

Now if she had 1 egg split into 4?  That qualifies as a surprise in my book!

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • I wondered about the "surprise" part as well.

5 mature follies but they werent worried about it because for her first pg, she had 4 mature follies and only had one baby.

    Indifferent

Nice logic. NOT (to steal a term from the 90's)

OK.... I'll give her "not worried about it" (allowing for sheer stupidity) but I sure the heck won't give her "surprised".

You trigger 5 mature follies?  You'd better be prepared for all 5 to take.  And then add in an extra one just in case one splits.

Again .... very frustrated when HOM's like these are presented as "surprises".  These women were told what the risks were when they dropped trou for that trigger shot.

Heck... I even had to sign a "selective reduction" form when triggering a large number of follies even though we knew 2 were over ripe and 2 others were under ripe.

  • I didn't watch, but I had wondered about the 'surprise' aspect of it as well. Of course, I give the side-eye to most of those women who didn't know they were pregnant too.

Just thinking about 5 babies is scary though. How does she ever have time to shower?

  • Ditto everybody else. How is that a surprise?  No wonder people have so many misconceptions about IF treatments.
  • It wasn't even the same sperm donor the second time and they thought that everything would be the same?

i do really like that they are so open about using a donor though

  • I watched part of it, cute family, but I agree about the "surprise" - doesn't make much sense to me either.
  • So strange.  None of the doctors I ever saw would have allowed you to go forward in that situation, period.
