Home and/or auto insurance recs

Who do you use?  Are you happy with them (prices/service/claims handling)?

We are probably going to be shopping around a bit.  I know DH has his motorcycle insurance with State Farm and has been happy with them, but I've seen some articles recently about people being unhappy with State Farm for home insurance as they get dropped after filing a single claim.  So any thoughts on carriers would be appreciated before I start checking.

TIA!

Re: Home and/or auto insurance recs

  • We have Geico/Travelers and have had no problems at all (knock on wood) and by far the cheapest when we were pricing everything!

  • We use USAA and they are great if you qualify.  A CW has Hartford for home and flood and they were fabulous when he put in a claim due to a sewer line backup in his basement.

  • I use the same State Farm agent as my Dad for our Condo/Homeowners Insurance and both of our cars. We've been really happy with them, never had a problem, get great discounts (home/auto, no claims) and pay great rates.

My Dad had a pipe burst on Christmas Eve a few years ago - it flooded the main level of their house, destroying/warping their hardwood floors, etc.  They handled it really quickly - got the leak fixed, replaced the floors, cleaned/dehumidified everything else, basically had everything back to pre-loss condition by New Year's. We were all VERY impressed with them.

LMK if you want my guy's info.

  • We have USAA and I love them!  Their customer service is unmatched!  I am so lucky to have the opportunity to use them (you either have to be active duty or retired military or you have to be a dependent...at least that is what the criteria was when I started with them 15 years ago!)
no identifiable siggy pictures anymore, thanks a lot stupid nest!
