Kopper Top (UPDATED w/ Grand Woods Lounge)

Has anyone been to the Kopper Top restaurant in Grand Rapids?  How did you like it?

My parents will be in town this weekend and offered to take us out to dinner for my upcoming birthday.  I'm trying to figure out where to go.  I like casual restaurants with great food and atmosphere.  My favorites are Little Mexico, HopCat, and Monelli's.  I'd like to check out a new place though, so I thought that perhaps the Kopper Top would fit the bill.

Any other suggestions for me to consider?  Bonus points for anything on the west side.

Re: Kopper Top (UPDATED w/ Grand Woods Lounge)

  • In my opinion, I was there a year or two ago, and I wasn't too impressed.  It was a while, so they may have changed.

It isn't necessarily west side, but for Chineese I love First Wok on Alpine Ave.

My parents will go to Salvatore's on Stocking and like their food there.

I like Red's in Rockford and Leo's downtown.  For sandwiches/lunch 4th street deli is great.  As for breakfast, the west side cafe is great also.

Don't know how much this helps, but some suggestions.

  • Only been to Kopper Top was "ok".

But, I'd highly recommend Salvatore's! We love it there. Yummy yummy!

  • Love, love, love Salvatore's! We love it so much that they know us there. LOL!

  • Thanks for the responses!  Okay, no Kopper Top.  I've been to Salvatore's once and thought it was just okay.

Does anyone by chance have feedback on the Grand Woods Lounge?

  • Hmmm... maybe The Winchester would be good too as ToBeMrsC mentioned in another post.  I've never been there before, but their menu looks pretty good.
  • I see how it is.  You all are making be make a decision by myself!  Where'd everyone go?!  Why is no one on this board anymore!?  How can I make a decision without your help!?  *stomps foot*  Stick out tongue

I made a reservation at Grand Woods Lounge.

I've only been to the Woods once, and was just meeting up with friends to go elsewhere so I didn't eat...but from what I saw, it was too "bar-like" for me to consider it a good place for dinner.

We've given the Winchester three tries and all of them were strikes...but that's just my take.

  • Give the Kopper Top a try, with Brandon, and not on a special ocastion.  The decor is a treat.  I can't give a good food review, as they aren't especially veggie friendly.

  • Will do, GRSP.  Good idea.

BTW, we went to Grand Woods Lounge.  I give it a thumbs up.  They have a really nice outdoor dining area that we enjoyed.  I thought the food was good too.

  • Ocastion?  Oh boy. ;)  Glad to read a review of the Grand Woods Lounge, haven't been there yet.

Everyone needs to go check out the Grand Woods at the end of September. K Holly's ArtPrize submission will be there!
