Anyone NOT have a Kindle or Nook because....

.......you actually love the smell of books and turning the pages is exhilarating to you.

Because that is exactly why I haven't gotten one of those little contraptions yet.

Weird huh?

Re: Anyone NOT have a Kindle or Nook because....

  • no I totally agree!!  but the more I travel, the more I wish I had one because it would be so much easier to have a kindle with a ton of books on it than to cart around a ton of heavy books that take up a lot of space.
  • LOL! I wasn't sure if I would like my nook for that reason....I love "real" books!

But I still read real books all the time....I have a stack of 10 next to my bed that I'm going to delve into once I finish GWTDT on my nook.  So you can have it both ways :-)

Not weird at all. I totally agree.

  • I'm in the same boat as you!  Maybe if I had a job that I travelled a lot for or something, I would want one.  For now, I prefer a book!  I like to physically own them and see them on my shelves :)
  • I have to have my "real" books.  I can't bring myself to break down and by an electronic reader yet.  I am old school, I don't even do facebook.

  • For me it isn't just that I love actual books, it's also that I really don't want one more piece of technology. I have an ipod, a computer and a cell phone and they take up more of my life than I like. Books are for unplugging from everything for me.

  • I have too many books that are out of print and not available on the e-readers.  I hate to think I would have to re-buy them all, just to fit the technology.  And I love the way my favorites fall open to my favorite passages.  I just love the feel and the look of all my books, in my hands, and lined up on my shelves.  I may eventually get one, but for right now, I much prefer the old school ways.  I am so glad there are other people who don't want one.  It may mean there will continue to be actual paper and ink books for us to purchase.

  • This is how I feel. I know it would be good for when I travel home but I also worry about going to the beach with it. What happens when you get sand on it.

This is a really good point that I never thought about, but I definitely think applies to me as well.  One of the reasons that I read (aside from pure enjoyment obviously) is so that I'm not on the computer/watching TV.

You probably wouldn't have the headaches since the nook and kindle are e-ink technology...they aren't backlit, which is generally what causes headaches.

I felt exactly the same way!

I got an iPad for other reasons, and now I'm addicted to e-books.  It's just so much more convenient.  I still love a good physical book, but I love reading more, and this really enables it.  Especially since I live in a place where it's hard to get affordable English books.

  • me. and also because the main reason I wanted an e-reader was to make it easier to read my series (don't have to lug 5 books on vacations or whatever). however, so many of my favorite books are already in hard copy, that I'd have to basically have 2 copies: a hard one and an electronic one. e-readers will have to be a little bit cheaper before I can break even.

  • me!!! i love books.

and i travel a lot. i dont mind carrying books.

Friday, December 28 2012. The day I had emergency appendix surgery in Mexico and quit smoking. Proof that everything has a good side!! DH and I are happily child-free!! No due date or toddler tickers here!! my read shelf:
Alison's book recommendations, favorite quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf)
  • Me!  I'm too old fashioned.  I just have no desire to buy an e-reader.  I don't travel so I don't have the use for one anyway.  I even rarely check out audiobooks because I prefer having a book in my hand.
    Siggy coming soon....

I love having books.  I tried to read a book on my phone, yes considerable smaller than a Kindle or Nook but it was a trial of sorts to see if I would like it, but I just didn't like it.  I like having an actual book in hand.

    CRAFTY ME

    my read shelf:
Kasi's book recommendations, liked quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf)

  • This is exactly the reason I gave when I was asked if I'd like a Kindle as a gift.  There's a certain thrill that comes with turning the next page and closing the cover when I'm finally done with the book- I'm just not ready to let that go.

I don't want one. I love shopping for books and keeping them organized. Eventually DH and I want to have an in home library with custom bookshelves. The key word was eventually.

  • There are a LOT of reasons I don't have an e-reader and don't plan to get one, but this is the main reason I don't.  I will probably eat my words one day just like I did when I said I'd never get a dvd player or that I'd never get an mp3 player.  But for the foreseeable future, I have no plans to give up my paper and ink!

  • I like the satisfaction of being able to see where my bookmark is in my book. I like to look at it and see, oh I'm more than halfway done already! I don't know, it just gives me a little burst of satisfaction on getting something accomplished. I've afraid a Nook/Kindle wouldn't be the same.

Thinking about getting one.... but I'm not quite sold on it yet. I just enjoy browsing book stores so much, pulling books off shelves, seeing the cover art... I keep stopping at the nook station at B&N, but then I end up just checking out with 2-3 paperbacks instead.
