Storms = ANTS

Ugh.  All the rain has made the ants invade our house.  I was asking some co-workers, and they said it happens more when it's super rainy like it has been.

Any suggestions for getting rid of them?  We have the clear liquid traps out, and they are killing them slowly, but I'd like to kill them on the outside first if I can.  Suggestions for DIY sprays, companies, etc. would be really appreciated.

It is nice to have the kitchen so clean -- I packed-up and scrubbed everything to help limit the places they can hide.  I'm enjoying how clean it is... but I can't cook with the ants everywhere.

Re: Storms = ANTS

  • I would go to Home Depot or Lowes and see what they have.  We spray for bugs products from there.  Someone around that department might have some tips as well.

    We don't have problems with ants, but we do have problems with centipedes.  We are thinking it is because of the rain as well.

  • You can mix powdered sugar and borax and leave it out where they can get to it.  It takes a few days to work and you can't kill them because you want them to take the mix back to the nest.

    We had a similar problem and ended up calling the Orkin man to come out.  The ants killed a tree in our garden and were invading the kitchen.  After one trip out we haven't seen an ant anywhere and the spiders have been reduced as well.  It costs more but I think it is more effective.

  • We use Ortho home defense max insect killer.  We spray it around the base of our front door and around our windows.  It does an excellent job keeping out the bugs.  Every now and then we might find a random tiny ant but it makes a huge difference.
