any teacher that can help?

I am taking a research class for my masters right now. By the end of it I have to write a research proposal. I am racking my brain for ideas but I havn't come up with much. So to all the teachers. What are some of the biggest issues you are facing right now? I am thinking about doing something involving the use of extrinsic motivators in early childhood education but that may be hard to design. Any ideas of what I should research? I am totally blanking on this one.

Re: any teacher that can help?

  • I teach high school, but my biggest issue is INTRINSIC motivation and trying to get kids to take some responsibility for themselves and their learning.  Maybe you could tie extrinsic motivators in elementary to performance in high school, that would be interesting to see.

Another one is technology.  It sounds like lots of divisions are huge on technology these days and how it can be used in the classroom.

  • Do you have a large ESOL population?  Anything related to behavior or behavior modification/programs.  A few schools in our district have gender specific classrooms.

  • I agree technology would be a good one because that's big right now.

I think also Gender norms may be good.  I did a paper on Gender Norms/Roles in the science and math classroom and how it affected student performance and behavior and there was plenty of interesting materials and studies to pull from.

I also agree that INTRINSIC motivation would be interesting.

  • Thanks for the ideas. When I said extrinsic motivation I was thinking its effect on intrinsic motivation.
