Family Wedding

I will be attending my MIL's wedding in a few weeks.

Thoughts? Interesting stories?

Re: Family Wedding

  • I don't get it - what kind of thoughts are you looking for?
  • My mom got remarried 3 years ago. This was both her and her husband's 3rd marriage. It started out by going to the JOP and slowly turned into some fancy affair... they went all out with a cake, harp player, professional photographer, white dress, bridal parties, ect. My mom wanted us to be all into 'wedding planning' but all of us kids just kind of thought it was a little ridiculous that they both had already had 2 weddings, divorces, and still wanted to go all out.10 people came to the wedding (it was in their back yard) and they spent over $5,000 - more than my wedding. at a hotel. with 150 people.

I guess whatever you want for your big day :)

What kind of wedding is she having?

  • This one will be very informal.  In the planning stages she mentioned shorts and t-shirts, It should be a really fun wedding.  I actually feel a little conflicted about the bachelorette party though.

To others, I was just starting conversation, you don't have to struggle to find something to say.

Why do you feel conflicted about the bachelorette party?

  • Attend.  Bring a nice gift.  Smile.  Be friendly.  Don't be snarky.  Dress appropriately.  Dance a few times.  Don't skip out right after the meal.  Congratulate the newlyweds.

  • I guess I just don't view MIL as a bachelorette although I guess she is.

I have a wonderful and "hands-off" MIL and I am truely thrilled she has found someone who makes her so happy.

You don't have to go to the bachelorette party if you don't want to.  Personally, I really like them and almost always have fun when I go to them.  Don't worry about viewing her as a bachelorette and have some fun

    That is nuts. Absolutely nuts.

Although I do fully support going all out for a wedding - I really want to have a big vow renewal at some not-yet-determined point in the future.

I had a really small wedding and it was marred by family issues so I kinda want to make up for it. But, $5,000 for 10 people - nuts.
