I've read 20 books this summer!

I just counted the books I've read this summer on my goodreads, and I've read 20!  I'm proud of myself, because I used to really like to read but got kind of derailed from all the mandatory reading in college and grad school.  Then it was always easier to just turn off and watch t.v.  I'm happy to have re-discovered my love for a good book (or even a so-so one).

Re: I've read 20 books this summer!

  • Wow!! That's awesome! I've read a bunch when I was super sick but still not close to 20 I think! I used to love reading, but now I'm on the nest and facebook all the time LOL
  • Me too, sometimes I have to stop myself and read, but then I'm glad I did.  (Part of the reason though I'm posting it now though is because I'm working on my newbie status - using my book pride for evil!)

  • Well, I'm slowly chipping away at, but I realized tonight I'm getting closer so I should work a little harder!  I want to earn it honestly though...no posting and hitting refresh 90 times.

  • :P Yeah the girls on the SC board are listing out groceries etc. When I got close to 500 I wanted to just do that but I refrained! I've been away for 2 days and lost my second blue box, guess you can't turn your back on the Nest lol.
  • It's been stolen from you by all those people hitting refresh!  ... At least listing groceries takes a little effort.

  • That is great! I just made it through one. Which was your favorite?
  • The Time Traveler's Wife, which was a surprise; I had been avoiding it for a long time because I thought I wouldn't like it at all, but it was so good.  I kind of missed it when I was done.

  • OOOOh! I read that too! I also loved it. DH read it and swore that I would too. I was pretty hesitant but it was wonderful. It was one of those books where it was really easy to put yourself in the character's position and wonder what it would feel like if Jeff just kept popping in and out of my life! :(

How about a few recs? I'm ready for a new boo actually!

  • I know you have been reading a lot!  I keep getting the updates on goodreads and feel like a slacker because I haven't been updating mine.  Do you own all the books you read this summer or did you get them from the library... a lot of them looked really good!

I loved Time Traveler's Wife as well... and didn't expect to in the beginning..

  • I've been using the library - Brunswick has a really nice one and it's fun to request books from other libraries, it's kind of like a little present when it comes!

Some other good ones were...Case Histories by Kate Atkinson, I'm reading that right now, it's kind of got some mysteries woven through, it's interesting.  The Kindness of Strangers and Bel Canto were also very good.  And Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.

  • Ahhh how does the refresh thing work? I haven't heard about that, although I don't venture from the ME board much
  • I don't know how you do it exactly.  I think if you hit post and then keep hitting refresh, it keeps re-posting the same thing.  So you'll see posts that have like 200 of the same thing posted as replies.  Maybe I'll try it right now...

  • I don't know, I just hit refresh and nothing happened...but when it does happen, people always tell that person "stop hitting refresh"...because people do it accidentally a lot.  Who knows!

  • i LOVED the time traveller's wife.  i read it when it first came out and it's the book i love most of all the books i've read "recently" (in other words, no book since then has lived up).  i really missed it when i was done.

  • Yeah, I was really surprised at how good it was.  It's definitely my favorite in the last couple of years.  I'm almost thinking about re-reading already because I do miss the characters!

  • What is "goodreads"? I've read a lot this summer too...although no where near 20 books!
  • It's a website where you can keep track of all the books you've read, are reading, and want to read.  You can make little notes and rate the books you've read, but I just like it to keep see what I've read and keep track of the ones I want to read so it makes getting library books easier.  You can also connect with other friends that have goodreads and see what they are reading and recommend.  I really like it!

  • That sounds awesome. I have a whole list of books I want to read next to my library card in my wallet! I will definitely have to check this out. Thanks for the info!
  • Good for you!  I used to be a complete book worm growing up.  I still love a good book and struggle finding the time to read... These darn computers are evil!  I just read some super cheesy chick books by Rachel Gibson, "Sex, Lies, and online dating".  Cute, but not very substantial.  Any other good recs?
