Can anyone help?

I'd like to ask the GP board but sometimes I'm afraid to ask questions over there. lol

So, we're down another month and to be honest, I don't get it....my periods are "normal" and it looks like I'm ovulating so.....

We want to get DH's swimmers tested but we don't have a clue where to go. Do we find a Fertility Dr or what?

Thanks girls....

Re: Can anyone help?

  • I think you can get a rec from your regular gyno.  However, I thought most gynos don't recommend you to a specialist until you've been TTC for a whole year.  Someone, please correct me if I am wrong.

Amador, how long have you guys been trying?

  • no advice just wanted to say i'm sorry...

Me:39 Dx LPD, Fibroid, AMA and all that goes with that. H:37 Dx low motility and low morphology. TTC since 3/12. Clomid 8/12 and 9/12: BFN. 11/12 on a break for Myomectomy sched. 11/26. Resume TTC early 2013.
  • How long have you been trying?

If you have no history that would suggest infertility or you husband (Cancer, exposure that would cause low sperm counts) most Dr's are going to tell you to keep trying for a year before they will do testing. I was diagnosed with PCOS at age 14 so as soon as we started I went to Reproductive endocrinologist and had a full work up. Also your insurance may not cover testing if you haven't documented ttc for a year.

  • I'm sorry this is so frustrating.

Most doctors like they have mentioned won't see you until a year of trying and then they'll want charts so you'll have to make sure you have those handy otherwise when they see you they'd most likely tell you to start that and have some before you come back.

I do think that my one friends did have him checked before that though...maybe at 6 months???

I would just check with your regular gyno and ask for a rec.

They also may want to check to see how your ovaries and stuff look too

  • When I saw my OB/GYN back in September I mentioned testing, and she said she would start with the SA for H and probably blood work and stuff for me.  We never got to the referral part because our insurance covers nothing, and obviously the next month it was all unnecessary.

I'd do what other girls said and talk to your GYN first.  Also, make sure you know exactly what your insurance covers.  You don't want any nasty surprises.  Also, when I mentioned on here about our insurance not covering anything, I think it was Hanna, who said that you can have your H go to a urologist for the SA, and they shouldn't bill the test as "infertility".

  • Thanks girls....I don't care that some will not talk about it until 1 year. I'll find another Dr.....it's not right. If there are issues then things should be taken care of no matter how long it's been.

I'll take matters into my own hands! LOL

We've been really trying for 5 months but add the 2 we were just "seeing what happens", it's 7.

I know when you want a baby you want it like yesterday (trust me we have been TTC for almost 2 yrs) but in all honesty trying for 5-7 months is not that long without a history. On average it take a totally healthy couple 5-6 months to conceive. A healthy couple only has a 20% chance each month of conceiving.

I am going to assuming you are charting, BBT and have ready TCOYF. If not I would highly recommend starting there. When is your next annual wit you GYN? Bring it up to her then. Your primary GYN can start the fertility testing (FSH, LH, Prolactin etc and SA).

I understand it's not that long compared to some people but to us, it's long and I'm not willing to wait a year without getting some kind of help from someone. I may not even talk to my reg. Dr. I think I'm going to call a Naturopathic Dr. and try Acupuncture first. I don't like the idea of using other drugs to get pregnant, but we'll see. Of course, I will if necessary.

Yes, I am charting and read TCOYF. I need to go back in May sometime so I may bring it up to her then (she's a midwife).

  • Mrs. A- My doc told me that since I was charting if I didn't get a + in 6 months to come in and we could look at our approach and see if there was anything to help it along. From what I've heard the SA test is pretty simple, I don't see why you would have any problem getting them to test your H. I'm sorry that its taking long enough to stress you out! Call your Dr, I'm sure they'll help you out. And try the naturopathic- it couldn't hurt right? Good luck, I'm thinking positive thoughts for you. Side note- does your man wear boxers or briefs? If its briefs tell him to switch to boxers stat! That'll help his production. :)
  • He wears boxers....wish I could say that was the issue....

    Thanks though! :-)

  • i would just schedule an appt with your regular midwife. take your charts and what not with you and see what they say. they might say wait longer, they might say go ahead with the all natural acupuncture type stuff but wait 6 more months for the actual medical type stuff. you never know until you ask. of course as soona s you get there in there and get a work up, you will get pregnant!

it does take time though and i know you are frustrated. are you laying flat afterwards to make the swimmers stay in there? are you orgasming much bc that can help draw them up into it? are you using lube bc that can hinder it?

  • The first Dr that I went to when ttc gave me 6 months but I do have a history of cysts on my ovaries. That Dr also treats infertility problems, so you might want to check with your reg dr or call the office of a specialist in your area and ask when they start to treat pt's. Just an idea. Also, it seems to me you've been having stress with the house hunting and really wanting to get pregnant. Remember that they say that stress may also affect your chances of getting pregnant. I wish you the BEST and that a dr will see you soon cuz even if its only been 5 or seven months, I know by month 3 I was stressing out!  Hugs

Yes, I'm laying flat, orgasming and using all natural lube! We are doing everything right....shiit, it's annoying. haha

And I know stress makes it not happen but I dont know how to relax when I want it soooo badly!

I'm going to call a Naturopathic Dr. and try Acupuncture, I think (if I didn't mention that above, I've lost my mind) lol

  • Oh hun, I just wanted to give you a hug and wish you luck

hopefully that will help you at least relax! but i would really make an appt with your midwife too to see if you are missing anything.

  • By all means, mention it to your doctor. But like PP mention, insurance mostly likely will not cover ANY IF treatments until you've been trying for 12 months.

Also, when I mentioned on here about our insurance not covering anything, I think it was Hanna, who said that you can have your H go to a urologist for the SA, and they shouldn't bill the test as "infertility".

    Yes.

And smart of you for not asking on GP. They would've eaten you alive for this.
