Dear Obama

If you could, I'd really like to go back to getting one lump sum when I file my taxes.  Quite honestly, I don't even notice any difference from last year's paychecks to this year's. So please kindly consider revamping the system to where I get my lump sum back.

Please and thank you.

Extra smoochies-

Re: Dear Obama

  • We noticed quite a difference last spring when that was changed.

Then again, we still withhold at 'single 0' to have the most taken out of our checks each pay period.

  • We both withold at "single 0" to always avoid owing at the end of the year... but my gosh- this is just bad.

  • We quickly noticed the whole "the more you make, the more you pay" thing this year.  If we didn't have the house deductions we'd get almost nothing back.

  • I honestly have no idea what you're talking about. But I make so-so money and my W2 is bizarre due to my tuition remission, and Chris takes the house deduction, so our taxes just look odd anyway. But now I feel like I should compare my pay stubs from this year and last!
  • It was my understanding that the change actually happened last spring/summer.  I remember hearing about it and thinking we would be affected due to Pat's multiple jobs.

  • Just found out when JP told payroll to change his status, he forgot to change his witholdings... ugh!

This.  I think we actually would have owed a little if we didn't make energy improvements to the house and therefore get money back for that.  Or we would have been super close to breaking even (which I do realize is a "good" thing, but we always like getting a return).  We file at Married-0 I believe (or married-1?).  All I know is we didn't change our witholdings from last year and house credits aside, our return went down by about $3000 this year

  • If it weren't for education credits, we'd be paying in a couple thousand (mostly because my temp agency wasn't witholding properly and I didn't catch it). We're getting a piddly federal return and we have to pay in to state. I miss our big tax refunds, too.

  • Same for us. If it wasn't for some of the deductions (improvements, education) we had and the new car thing... we would not of had much of a refund at all, and probably owed for state.

The new car tax... I remember looking at our bill of sale. We bought the car the day after this tax credit went in effect. We had no idea. That worked out in our favor.

  • I guess I am the oddball. I almost fell out of my chair, because I wasn't expecting as much back! (And we didn't make any home improvements or anything.)

  • I also had no idea our refund would be as big as it was.  I was pleasantly surprised and very happy that it turned out this way.  I don't much care either way, honestly I'd rather break even than have a refund or have to pay in....but not enough to screw with our witholdings since I think they are just fine for now.
