fun books set in LA?

I am going to LA next week and would love to read a light/fun book that is set in LA/Hollywood. TIA!

Re: fun books set in LA?

  • There is a YA series called. Secrets of My Hollywood Life by Jen Calonita.

    Description of the first book:

What if? Your picture was taped inside teenage boys' lockers across America, your closets were bursting with never-worn designer clothing, and the tabloids constantly asked whether you were losing your "good girl" status?

It's a glamorous life, but 16-year-old Kaitlin Burke, co-star of one of the hottest shows on TV, is exhausted from the pressures of her fame. So she decides to spend two months undercover as an ordinary high school student. But could it be that real life high school is just as harsh as cutthroat Hollywood??

Juicy Hollywood secrets appear throughout. Combining the vicarious star-studded glamour of the New York Times bestselling A-List with the innocence of The Princess Diaries, this is an engrossing look behind the velvet ropes of stardom.

    The order goes

    Secrets of My Hollywood Life

Secrets of My Hollywood Life: On Location

Secrets of My Hollywood Life: Family Affair

Secrets of My Hollywood Life: Paparazzi Princess

Secrets of My Hollywood Life: Broadway Lights (Releases 3/1/2010)

  • The Second Assistant is set in LA. There's a sequel too called The First Assistant, but I didn't care for it as much as the first one.

I think Audrey, Wait! takes place somewhere out there too.

  • I also really liked The Second Assistant---didn't care as much for the First Assistant either.

I also really recommend Literacy and Longing in L.A by Laura Kaufman and Karen Mack (I think those are their names). They also wrote a second book (unrelated to the first) that I enjoyed called A Version of the Truth.

And Angels by Marian Keyes is also about L.A.

  • L.A. Candy by Lauren Conrad

You'll Never Nanny in This Town Again is also a fun, dishy read.
