Delaware beach recommendation?

Hi everyone! I live in NJ and my husband and I are looking to rent a beach house next summer and were thinking of trying Delaware beaches instead of Jersey shore for something different. Our son will be 1 and we are looking to go down with some other family. Is there a specific beach which is more family oriented? We just don't want to get stuck in an area with all college kids. Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving!

Re: Delaware beach recommendation?

  • I like Bethany Beach, DE.  It has a TINY boardwalk and some cute little shops.  Its in the middle of Reboth Beach, DE, Dewey Beach (which draw a larger younger crowd i think) and Fenwick Island DE.  Its close enough to Fenwick for a little game of mini golf with the kids and alittle water park.  Seafood resturants, and stores.  And another few miles south you have Ocean City MD for the large crowds and the boardwalk and more yummy places to eat.

And if you head North from Bethany to Rehoth Beach you have outlet shopping a nice big board walk and you can go to Lewes Delware and do the little town and maybe ride the ferry (Cape May Lewes Ferry).

  • My family lives in Bethany and I spent alot of time there in the summers while I was growing up.  I agree with pp.  Bethany has alot of teenagers that like to gather at the grandstand at night, but you do not have the drunk party feel.  If you wanted to walk on a boardwalk, you could  head to Ocean City, MD or to Rehoboth for the night.  If you like to eat out, Bethany has some nice place: The Blue Crab, Bethany Blues and a few nicer places.  There is also a 5 guys, and a little diner place.   Beaches are nice, but not too crowded and not a mile long walk to the water like some other beaches.  Good Luck with the house search.   :)
