Oil Stains?

Hello Ladies!

Sorry to be board crashing...

I was wondering if any of you have any tips for getting out oil stains from clothing? I treated DH's shirt with Spray and Wash (or something like that) and washed it. Stain is, of course, still there!

Anybody know what gets out oils?

Re: Oil Stains?

  • try some dish soap right on the spot, then wash it in the washing machine.

  • Dish soap works, it may take multiple applications.

Another thing to try is to sprinkle a little baking soda over the spots and let sit, then throw it in the washing machine.  This works best on fresh stains, but it can also help on washed in oil spots.

  • Thanks! I'll try those suggestions. :-)
  • I know this sounds really weird, but you can also use WD-40 on it as well.  In college, I worked as a waitress at an Italian restaurant where we had to wear white button down shirts & we served olive oil & herbs with the bread.  I constantly got oil on my shirts & someone told me to spray WD-40 on the stain & then wash as normal.  It works like a charm!
  • Try Lestoil. (sold in the laundry section) The smell is terrible, but it works great!
