Haven't been to Vegas in a few years...explain the new hotels?

DH and I used to go several times a year and stay at the Bellagio.  Looking for something different.  On the strip, mid to South strip is best for us.  We like a nice pool and a nice Strip view, that's really it.  Would like $150-$200 a night, but will spend up to $300 a night if needed.  Also, we like a more "adult" hotel, not college kids, and not little kids.  I don't know anything about the hotels that have opened in the last few years, haven't been since December 2006.  We would be going either in June or over Labor Day in September.

Suggestions?  Thanks!

  • Ive only been to Vegas one time (July of this year) and we stayed at the Paris. I love it. Its sooo beautiful inside.
  • Hmmm, this is a bit more toward the North Strip, but I seriously love the Palazzo. Love it. Casino is small and it's a super easy hotel to navigate. I really haven't seen many, if any, kids there. All the rooms are suites (sunken living room w/L shaped couch, bedroom area, and nice big bathroom). Plus it's connected to the Venetian so it's almost like you are getting two hotels in one.
  • Have you looked into the Wynn?

We had a great experience there. I recommend that over the Bellagio any day (overrated IMO).?

We used to get really cheap deals from the Bellagio, which is why we went so often.  The last 2 times that we went to Vegas we loved the Wynn, but back then it was still $500 or so a night to stay there...I just looked on expedia.com and found a decent deal for the Encore at the Wynn...?

YAY! I would do it! My friends just were there (at the Encore) 2 weeks ago and loved it (they have stayed at the Bellagio before too and said it was better).?

  • Ditto PALAZZO!  Love, love LOVE it!  We were there in May and I seriously can't wait to go back and stay there.  Oh my, the suites are huge and gorgeous, the hotel decor is just beautiful, great restaurants (Dos Caminos - my fave), the pool area is awesome, really really nice, they have like 5 different pools and a bunch of hot tubs. The Canyon Ranch Spa is amazing, loved it!  Their customer service is top notch, we were treated like VIPs all the way.  They have special packages starting at $159/night right now, check it out:  www.palazzolasvegas.com

ETA: I did not see an abundance of kiddies, mainly adults - mature adults, and no loud college kids...

There's also the Wynn (a few yrs old now, haven't stayed there) - and it's sister property, Encore, the newest on the strip.  We stayed there this last time as well and weren't very impressed.  I don't like the over-the-top red decor and "stuffiness" of that joint.  Pool area seriously lacked, and customer service was crap.  I will say though that our room was pretty nice, and the bed was super-comfy.

YES!  THIS!  Palazzo is, hands down, my absolute favorite Vegas hotel for all of the reasons EB mentioned.  Don't think you can go wrong.

Hey girl - I was just thinking earlier today when this post came up, that you haven't been around.  But here you are, my PALAZZO buddy, lol!

  • Any reason why you want mid strip and south of there?  The newer nicer hotels tend to be North of Bellagio.  Of the southern hotels, I'd recommend Four Seasons, Mandalay and THEHotel at Mandalay.  Four Seasons was running a special for a while where you get a night free.  That hotel is the best on the strip, IMO.

  • I also don't like hotels with lots of kids or the 21 crowd.  Bellagio, Wynn, or the new Palazzo would fit your needs.
  • I'm a fan of Signature at MGM Grand. Quiet and non-smoking... a rare find on the Vegas strip.

I agree, almost forgot about this one!  We stayed there 2 years ago.  The suites are very nice, and I loved having a balcony, a rarity in Vegas hotels.  If you can score a 1 bdrm PH, you will love it.  It`s like a huge apt. with a gigantic ensuite in the bdrm and another half bath off the lvgrm, full kitchen too.  Floor to ceiling windows, and the freakin tv in the bdrm comes up out of the dresser by remote!  The jr. suites are super nice as well, just smaller, and a different layout.

Also, it`s really nice to go back to the peace and quiet of this hotel after all the chaos and loudness of the strip.  It`s a real oasis, just a few steps off-strip.  Plus you get to use the pool facilities at the MGM Grand in addition to the Signature pools, which are very nice and classy.

Check on VRBO rather than booking through the hotel.  You can get amazing rates - we paid under $200/night.

  • I second the MGM signature hotel. DH and I stayed here for our anniversary trip last year.  Loved the hotel, the jacuzzi tub, and quiet.  We saw mostly couples, no kids, a sophisticated but not snobby clientele.

Cons: if you bring a car, you can only valet park it.  We were always coming back and forth, so all those tips added up.  It was very close to the monorail, so that may be a good alternative to a car. To get to the strip, you had to walk through MGM's casino, which was a LONG smoky noisy walk to us. We also reserved through vrbo.com, which was much cheaper than the main site.

  • We almost always stay at Wynn, and my husband loves Palazzo.

Recently, however, we were quite impressed by our room at Caesars Palace.  It was so much nicer than we'd expected.
