Mercury is a GIRL! Gretta Joleigh was born Friday at 7:34 pm, she was 7 lbs, 12 oz and 19.5 inches long.
I woke up around 7:30 am on Friday and felt a little "different," but didn't really know whether I was in labor or not. We want to our Ob at 10:00, who confirmed early labor gave us the option of going to the hospital to labor or heading home for a while. We decided to go home at first, but the contractions started getting stronger and closer together, so we were at the hospital by 12:00 pm. I got an epidural around 2:30, and started to push around 5:30 pm - she was born about 2 hrs later! Since she had passed some meconium in utero we had a visit from the NICU team, but they were able to get everything out of her throat/lungs so we were able to avoid a NICU stay. Overall it was a fairly easy labor, especially for a first born. The pushing hurt more than I thought it would, but it was all obviously worth it in the end. I ended up tearing quite a bit, so I am really sore today and don't plan on pooping ever again.
She did so well on the first day - latched easily, slept well, didn't cry much at all, but seems kind of uncomfortable today. We can't tell if it is reflux, gas, or just normal 24 hr-baby behavior. Hopefully she will figure out sleep again sometime soon, or it could be a long first few weeks!
Here is our first family picture (we are obviously crazy about her!):
