HSG Test

I never run out of questions :) I've been reading about the HSG test (to see if my tubes are blocked). So, does it hurt? Where did you go? Could DH be in the room with you? How long does it take...someone explain!

Thanks and have a great weekend!!!!!!

Re: HSG Test

  • Here's my rundown of it:  Dr. Young ordered it for me.  MIF can't do them, so I went to some radiology place near them.  DH went with me, and was able to watch, but not be in the room...something about the x-rays.  :)  For me, it didn't hurt too bad.  You lay on a table, in a gown, they lay a lead apron over part of you, they position the x-ray machine, and inject the dye.  For me, the inject was like instant cramps.  I wasn't expecting that.  People said it might hurt, but somehow I thought it'd be a delayed thing.  Some people have a horrible experience, but I just had the cramps, like bad AF cramps.  They lasted about 1/2 an hour, and then went away.  My tubes were fine, not blocked.  I was glad DH was there so he could drive me home and pamper me a bit afterwards.

  • It was pretty much the same for me. The only difference was that I did have a blocked tube and it hurt quite a bit because if that. Also as a result I blead quite a bit. Not a big deal though. I took ibuprofin about 30 mins before and was able to drive myself home. I relaxed for an hour or so after the procedure and was fine by that evening. DH did not go.

I hope everything goes okay for you and that it's very quick and painless. Lots of people are in and out in no time with minimal pain. :)

Nobody said life would be easy. Just that it would be worth it.
