I'm jealous of all of you who have friends at work..

Me=Lonely at work. Sad.

?

I work for a company that has been "reduced in size" aka have laid off about 40% of their previous operating staff...

?

So all my work lunch buddies are gone. So sad.?

?

Surely this is a sign that I need to get a move on to from this place also but today- this blows!?

Re: I'm jealous of all of you who have friends at work..

  • Boo!  There is nobody left?  At all?  I am sad for you.  Sad
  • Well nobody youngish and fun you know?

    ?

When they made cuts they cut the people with less seniority first...

?So old farts stayed and new creative fun people went in the can. SAD!?

    ?

    Why I'm still here- dunno.

I'm either lucky, Old, or cursed you pick.?

    ?

  • That is really sad. I have some of the most awesome CWs ever. I would be super despressed if they were gone.

  • :-( That is sad. I deal with the same issue with working from home... Although it does make it easier to have healthy lunches and eat out less
  • But you have us, the internet friends! That's the same thing, right?

I get to supervise children during their lunch. I'd rather be lonely.

  • Y_L:

?Well Elaine and Heather were my favorite people here.. more and more I realize how much I miss those two the most.

?But everyone else that was fun and stayed after their departure that I was also friends with has been laid off now too.

?THe last batch being last Friday. This sucks! I'm totally pouting!?

    ?

    ?

    ?

    ??

  • Sad  I'm actually on a self-imposed hiatus from going out to lunch with co-workers. It reached a point where there was too much drama about where to go, who was coming along, when to leave, etc. And then this biatchy girl somehow became part of our lunch crowd and that was it for me. Now I only head out to lunch when I make plans in advance with people I like. Lunch needs to be fun, not stressful.

    OMG, this sounds horrific.

I agree.  Lunch is supposed to be fun!

  • It is horrific. We used to be a nice small, friendly group of 4-5 that did lunch together for years. Then all these stragglers started tagging along. Cliques formed, people got mad at each other and would only go if so and so wasn't, other people refused to try new places, some people always wanted to come back to the office early (we have a 90 min. break) etc. and it all became a hot mess. Plus, people kept having the same conversations at lunch over and over and over. Not the same topics, but the actual same conversations. I'm much more content in my office than dealing with all of that, tyvm. Wink

  • starlily, that is tragic.  And I'm not being facetious at all.  My philosophy is that lunch is very very important.  It is the one part of your work day when you get to be yourself and not your work self.

I hate stragglers.  It sounds terrible, but, if I only have an hour, I only want to spend it with people I really like.

Back in the day at the firm, one core member of our lunch group who was very friendly would often invite other people along.  Finally, the rest of us had to start telling him, "No riff-raff!"

    We are mean.

  • As of this coming Monday, I will be ME=Lonely too.
  • I am on a construction site............

I have nothin' but a bunch of men who like to talk sh!t that pass by every now and then....

  • I haven't had any work friends for almost 6 years. The two guys I work with go to lunch together almost every day. I am solo almost every day. I feel you fiddy.

Then we are mean too, because when I do make plans with certain co-workers we always close out the conversation with "no riff-raff allowed". I am also totally on board with your lunchtime philosophy. Lunchtime is too precious to deal with biatches.

  • I force my friendship onto people whether they like it or not, luckily, it has worked out for the most part.
  • i work with two other people.  period.  one is my boss who usually goes home to eat lunch with her babies.  one is my co-worker, who i get along with, but we rarely go out for lunch.  we're no fun.

This is my situation as well.

  • I get a 20 min "nutrition break."  Yup, 20 minutes.  Supposedly, since we are done with school so early (1:45) we don't need to take a longer lunch. There are plenty of reasons that go along with why we only have a 20 minute lunch (many valid) but it still sucks... not that I could go out to lunch anyways.
