Pregnant on Birth Control?

I have been on birth control for a year now. Last month I accidently forgot to take it two nights in a row and then had sex without a condom that week. I thought I was having symptoms of pregnancy a while after but when I took a test 2 weeks after the unprotected sex it came out negative. Then I was supposed to start my period last week but it never came, there wasn't even any spotting. So I took another test and that too came out negative. Is it possible that I might be pregnant and the birth control is giving me a negative reading somehow? Please help.

I saw your post on the GP board too and I second other peoples opinions that you definitely should see a dr. With the pill your cycle is very regulated and a missed period is pretty rare so you definitely need to get checked out. Good luck!
  • Call the doctor...people on a message board have no idea if you are pregnant.
  • Stress can cause your period to be late.  Birth control will not give a false reading.  For the most part you should be protected from pregnancy as long as you have not missed three pills in one month.  If you have missed three pills in one month then you need to discard the pack that you missed the pills from and start a new pack.  You will then need to use another form of birth control AS WELL AS taking your pill for at least a week before having unprotected sex.  If you only missed two pills you could become pregnant.  Relax take a deep breath, give it a week and If AF doesn't arrive then test again.  I do suggest to keep taking your pill if you want to avoid pregnancy.  Next time you get your prescription for your pill refilled, read all the information that comes with it and put it somewhere that you can refer to it if you ever have a doubt.  Also you can call your doctor and speak with someone  in the office.  They can give you information that an online forum cannot.  GL
  • This happened to me twice, and both times I got 2-3 false negatives before a positive test result, and those positives resulted in two little boys!

I say wait it out and see if your period arrives, or see a doctor for a better test. You definitely could be having a false negative.

This is HORRIBLE advice.  You have no idea which medication the OP is on.  As you mentioned, BCP comes with a handy booklet of instructions that tells you exactly what to do if you miss 1, 2, 3, or more pills of YOUR prescription.  All prescriptions are not the same.

I do agree with you that the OP needs to call her doctor.

If you hear the ocean afterwards - you're pregnant.

I don't consider it getting "pregnant on birth control" when you've missed two consecutive pills. That's just getting pregnant.
  • It's your fault that you missed those pills...not the birth control's fault. Pregnancies on BC is normally from human error. Regardless, we are not a pee stick nor are we a gyno...make an apt. ASAP for peace of mind.

    GL!

  • sounds pregnant to me. it might be too soon for the home tests to show positive. go to the doc/clinic and take a test there.

  • I once went through the same thing. I missed 2 or 3 pills, was on antibiotics, and had unprotected sex (I know I was being stupid and careless). For the next 2 months I had symptoms of pregnancy, though I was still getting neg PG tests. I had no idea what to do, so I went to the doctor (after about 1 month) and she told me that the symptoms we a result of the pills ans the missed period could be from the pill (which can result in missed or extremely light periods). After everything, I got my period, after 2 missed cycles, though they continued to be irregular, which was probably b/c I stopped taking the pill.?

I tell you this to say you may not be pregnant, all of these symptoms could be a result of taking bcp. I would get an appointment with the doctor and get a blood test and an examination to make sure you are not PG or have any other problems.

    GL with everything?

LOL.  Yeah, can't blame the pill for that one - you can barely even call this user error.  You just stopped having protected sex.
