Rental cars

Who has the best prices for rental cars? We're going to Ohio in a few weeks and we need to get a rental for while we are there. I am looking at Budget but was wondering if anyone had another place that was better.

Re: Rental cars

  • Do you have an Entertainment book?  They usually have good deals and coupons for car rentals.  Last time I rented a car, I went with Avis because they gave me the best deal after coupons from the Entertainment book.
  • The last time we rented a car, we went through hotwire.com and while I can't remember exactly how much it was, I know it was pretty cheap.

  • Ditto Hotwire.  Or Priceline.  I've gotten crazy cheap rates on both sites.
  • I've had great luck with Hotwire for cars.  I got a rental for $13/day.

  • dont go with Avis...they have a lot of weird fees!

  • I have an entertainment book and we probably won't be using it for car rentals anytime soon so if you want the coupons from there, you're welcome to them!  Just let me know!
  • I've had luck with Southwest.com's website, priceline and hotwire.  I rarely go to the rentar car sites themselves because they always seem to be higher.

  • I seem to have the best luck with Costco coupons.

  • In the past when I rented I used Thrifty or Alamo, they seemed to have the best deals.
  • I was renting cars pretty much every week, and Dollar usually has good rates. If you can't find a coupon, the biggest money saver I can think of it to rent off airport if possible. When DH wrecked his car and we had to rent, the difference between renting at a neighborhood location and at the airport was almost $50 for the week.

I rent a car at least once a month and it is never the same company with the low prices. It totally depends on the airport too. I always end up booking through Southwest though. Hotwire and Priceline usually don't even come close to their prices. I try to avoid Thrifty and Dollar if I can fwiw. I've had good luck with Alamo, but they are very rarely the cheapest.
