Lunch Help!

Tomorrow, a group of teachers are going to lunch. We're either going to Valentino's (an italian buffet) or Famous Daves.

I looked on Famous Dave's website and it's not super helpful. Only a few of their things are listed online for nutritional values and none of those are very good!

I'm really hoping for the buffet - big salad, fruit, and one piece of pizza will fill me up. But, it will probably be BBQ. I'm thinking about the grilled chicken sandwich - I'll leave the bun off, or only eat half of it - and get a side salad. Do you see anything else that might be better?

Re: Lunch Help!

  • I always feel guilty eating out because I never know what's in anything. They could use a ton of butter or oil on something you wouldn't suspect. I wish it was mandatory for restaurants to provide nutritional information.
  • They have ingredients listed, but their nutritional values... only a few things are provided and it's through a different site - not helpful at all! I know listening to my body and portions and all that... but seriously? If I take all the bun off and ask for nothing but the chicken and side salad... maybe I'll have calories left after lunch. Huh?

  • That sounds good.  If you can, eat a small snack before you leave, like some string cheese.  That will help tro make sure you are not super hungry when you there.  Have fun!
  • I'm not sure what kind of dressing they have there but maybe you could just do a relatively plain salad with some bbq chicken on top and dressing on the side? Chili is usually a pretty decent option, even at a place like this. Maybe you could get that and a salad, or just a plain baked potato and put chili on it? Otherwise I think your sandwich option is your best bet.

  • The BBQ place has a salad that you could get without the cheese, bacon and 'shoestring potatoes' (whatever those are on a salad!) with dressing on the side, topped with your choice of BBQ meat. With a corn muffin on the side that sounds pretty good to me, healthy-ish but tasty.

Otherwise on the lunch menu you could do a plain potato topped with chicken and get a side salad, or just do a chicken platter and see if you could sub a side salad for the corn and side. I'm annoying like that at restaurants.

The muffins are 600 calories for 1. Yes, 1. Eek!
