Re: Lost for words

  • But it's not sexual. Um, ok.

  • Uh ok....really weird....
Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • Hate to ruin the fun, but this is pretty easily explained.

Erections can be caused by a lot of things that have nothing to do with sex, it just doesn't happen as much to full-grown men as it does to baby boys and middle schoolers.

And in one of my psych classes we studied a fairly new research study that has shown that about 9 out of 10 women get the same sexual/physical by response holding a baby, that men do by looking at porn.

  • If you read to page two, AlisaS (psych doc) and others explain it. It's pretty interesting. It can be a fear or stress response apparently.
  • 9 out of 10 women get the same sexual/physical by response holding a baby?  Physical I get, but sexually?  This must be a really broad definition of sexuality.  I don't remember hearing about this in my Psych classes (just an undergrad degree).  I would've have remembered ;)

It's not that you feel turned on, it's the things you don't necessarily feel, like heart rate, brain activity, blood pressure, etc.

  • Yes, that completely makes sense.  But I don't see how that falls under sexual.

  • Your body is reacting as if it is being stimulated sexually.

It's a primitive instinct response built in to make us keep reproducing.

  • Hetero sex is still linked to reproduction... so it stands to reason that babies would trigger "let's reproduce" feelings. I think people are uncomfortable with this because we've learned to separate sex from babymaking... which, you know, nothing wrong with that, but remember that there is still a connection biologically.

Exactly. And while it's easy to brush it off an think "EWWW well I don't get turned on by babies!!!" (much like the women in that post did), like it or not, there IS something built in to us that equates babies with baby-making. And for good reason. Without it a lot of us might not be here.

  • I have to say that explanation makes more sense.  But there is still a fine line there somewhere.  But, I can understand that it triggers hormones and some sexual response.

  • When I nursed my DS I recall feeling aroused.  I didn't want to have sex, but I felt that tingly aroused feeling.  I didn't think of it as sexual at all.

I would bet more men get aroused from things that we would find weird but would never admit it.  My DBF always says he pops wood when he makes money on his investments and I believe him!
