Lamaze or Childbirthing?

With so many new and going to be moms, I was wondering your choice. So many hospitals only offer Childbirthing classes. Will you/did you put the effort in to find Lamaze? Those of you that did the Childbirthing class, did you feel it gave you enough information/practice to handle the pain and such during labor?

  • Mine was a combined class I guess you would say. We learned the various breathing techniques, but we also learned about the different drug options available as well as other comfort measures such as squat bars, birthing balls, and tubs/showers.

  • The childbirthing classes that hospitals offer arent really supposed to give you birthing techniques since they are sponsored through the hospitals (meaning they cant promote unmedicated, medicated, no epi, an epi, etc).  They are just supposed to inform you about the whole process.  Our teacher did give some relaxation pointers such as breathing, massaging, etc.  Lamaze is a specific type of birthing to be used without medication so it would be separate from the hospital, just as the Bradley Method, Hypnobirthing, etc...
