is this detailed enough?!?

DH just sent me an email asking what he should do today...in order of importance.  This is my response so far.  Would it be wrong of me to add "apologize to your wife and thank her for all her hard work."

  1.  the entire house needs to be vaccumed
  2. the dining room table needs to be dusted
  3. the front mat and the back door mats need to be swept/shaken out
  4. make sure our bed is made
  5. the coffee table probably needs to be dusted again
  6. the dishes need to be put away.
  7. the flowers on the kitchen counter and on my nightstand need to be composted. please save the bowls they are in. washing them would be helpful. I don't have a place in mind to store those bowls. Perhaps in the cupboard below the microwave if there is room.
  8. the mirrors in the living room need to be windexed
  9. the desk (all of it) and the white cube shelves in the office need to be dusted, the floor also probably needs sweeping/vaccuming/dusting
  10. the duvet needs to be put away. there is a plastic case for it in the back left side of my closet. once it's in the case, you can shove it back in that corner of the closet or try to fit it in the top shelf of the linen closet.
  11. make sure there's plenty of toilet paper in your bathroom
  12. febreezing the house proabbly isn't a bad idea.
  13. after the house has aired out a bit, you probably should monitor the temp and throw on the AC/humidifier if it starts to get too warm.
  14. the AC filter may need to be dusted.
  15. the guest bed is covered in dog hair and should be lint rolled if you have time. the lint roller is in my car.
  16. we need a pack of ground turkey from the store
  17. we need to get dessert for tonight
  18. white wine needs to go in the fridge. the pasta salad can be tossed to make room for it
  19. the dog food bag on the carport needs to be thrown away.
  20. I don't think anyone's picking up that freecycle stuff. You can throw it away, donate it or store it in the storage room and deal with it next week if you want
  21. the trash can on the patio needs to be emptied
  22. the bar/grill covers can be folded and put in the storage room
  23. please put my mom's umbrella away somewhere
  24. the tarp needs to be rehung
  25. Brooke's crate needs to be moved to the office and collapsed if it's easy enough
  26. please also move Marley's crate to the office
  27. Marley could use a bath, but it's not necessary if you don't have time

Re: is this detailed enough?!?

  • You might want to define "entire house".... JK!

I think its fab! He might be a little overwhelmed though. The sheer lenegth of it is alot, even though some of them are little things.

  • Again, ditto Devon.  Its a great list, but I might consider taking out some of the things that will take you no time to do and putting them on your list just so he doesn't automatically get overwhelmed by the length.
  • At least he's making an effort now.

Because of the lenghth, I'd probably combine all the things that are similar. Like, "dust the dining room table, coffee table, & desk. Get turkey & desert from the store. Put dog crates in the office." That may make the list a little shorter in his eyes. Smile

  • I would also take out all the "might" and "possibly" type words.  I'd make it more short and to the point.

    - Dust the dining table

    - Clean/dust the airvents

     etc.

    This.

Also maybe prioritizing from most important at the top?  That might be getting a little too much though.  Smile

  • I agree with pp... good list though!

It's prioritized. But at this point, I don't really care. If there's no dinner, then he can tell his family why.  I'm pretty much in "idon'tgiveaflyingf**k" mode.

I sent it to him and said btw, the most important thing isn't on there. see if you can figure it out.  I was implying apologizing to me.

He just emailed me back "what's the most important thing? why wouldn't you just tell me?"

  • LOL, well, he clearly hadn't read it first.
  • I think the apology should have been first on the list!

As hard as it may be, you should just bite your tongue and plaster that smile on your face for tonight. Your guests will know something is up with you guys if you cant just agree to let it drop for tonight. It might get akward. It is his special day, so let him have it.  But then afterwards, finish saying what you need to say. Dont hold anything back or it will just eat at you. If you "really" want to prove a point, stop doing everyting that you do. See how long it takes him to get of his butt when the home looks like a disaster and NOTHING gets done. OR, explain to him that him helping out is like foreplay, and hold out till he starts cleaning! LOL :)

Either way.... I hope you are able to get thru tonight and the weekend without any major blowups between you two. That would make for a shitty weekend.
