Holy Headaches, Batman

So, in addition to starting to try to eat healthier (posted yesterday) I've also taken this week to start taking pre-natals as well as reduce my caffeine intake to one a day.

I'm generally kind of miserable but I was trucking along until today.  The headache I have is not to be believed.  I want caffeine.  I need caffeine.  But, I will resist.

I figured I had to give it up (or at least limit to a small daily amount) once I'm pg so I might as well start now.  Fun.

Anyone else de-caffeinated?  How long does it take ;)

Re: Holy Headaches, Batman

  • Ahh, I feel your pain. I have quit drinking caffeine more than once.  I would say the first week to two weeks are horrible headaches...daily, unfortunately.

And here I am again.  If I could only make a freaking lifestyle change instead of no soda then starting to drink it again.  Just like me post yesterday where I was talking about limiting calories.  I have been back and forth on that train multiple times too.

If I could just make the completely change instead of yo-yo'ing; then I wouldn't have to go through the BS two weeks following the drastic change.

  • I agree, its easier to completely change, otherwise you find you are putting yourself through it again later!  I too am off the healthy eating wagon right now for finals, but I'll be back again tomorrow!

Naylon - you're a strong woman!  Hang in there!

  • I feel your pain... I'm still sipping on a Dt. Coke.

There you go. It peaks after a few days and then gets better. There's hope!

Until then, enjoy some really really cold ice water, and convince yourself it's the most delicious thing you've ever had in your life. :)?

Thankfully, mercifully we have Caffeine Free Diet Coke at work.  What I really need to do is break the soda habit. Period.  But I am not up to that challenge.  I literally don't think I could do it.  This is at least a step in the right direction.

  • I stopped drinking soda a few years ago, but it was a gradual change, so I never had the headaches.  I have a soda once in a while now, but only as a treat.

  • Naylon - you are a tough lady changing so many things at once!  Giving up caffeine has got to be the hardest part of all of the changes though.

Be tough!  I gave up soda a couple of years ago and I haven't turned back.  It used to be my "go to" drink.  Now I only drink it if that's the only option or sometimes I'll treat myself (like if I have some pizza!)

    We're here to support you!

  • I try so hard to be good.. I have limited my caffeine to a couple times a week. If I think I need caffeine I try to drink Sprite (which i know has no caffeine). I do still have tea, but when I am at home or my Moms house it is decaf. It is soo hard to kick the habbit. My doctor said its fine to drink caffeine everyday, just limit your intake of it.

  • For we, soda was way easier than coffee. I gave up soda almost 2 years ago with no problem. Like pp said- I only have it no if there are no other options. As for coffee- I gave it up last year for almost 2 weeks over spring break but I only last one day back at work before going back to it- that's what leaving for work at 6:30 will do to you I guess!

  • I don't understand what people drink if they don't drink soda.  Seriously.  When I drink soda it's only diet coke (no regular sodas) and as I said I'm trying to get it down to one can of caffeine a day.

My desire to give up soda is b/c of the nutra sweet.   But, I don't want to replace it with sugar in other things (juice, etc).

So, aside from water and milk - what do you drink?

I actually don't drink milk either. The milk is because I hate it and the soda is because it's unhealthy. I drink a lot of water. I also drink juice (even though there is sugar in it, it is better than the sugar in soda), iced tea, lemonade, etc.

  • I drink 1 soda every other day or so. I drink about 8 bottles of water a day. DH and I just started drinking Kool-Aid again, too. It's so much cheaper than soda!
  • We never have soda, juice or milk in the house. We really only drink water. Every once in a while I'll grab Crystal Light. Sticking to just water is so much cheaper and healthier than buying pop. you'll just have to let you taste buds relax and get used to the H2O!

  • Naylon, I know it's hard at first but you'll feel so much better after it's all said and done. All I drink is water, sports drinks, milk and lemonade. I feel alot less run down without soda. GL!!
