Tote Rec's?

I want a fairly large tote to travel with. When I'm flying I like to carry my normal purse contents as well as my Ipod, a book, bottle of water, & some crackers or something to snack on.  When I get to my destination I usually add a map/guide book & my SLR camera. I also don't like the totes that have a divider in the middle. I like it to be open. Does anyone have any suggestions on places to look? My birthday is coming up & DH asked for specific guidance but I'm not really sure where to point him. It doesn't have to be a designer label or anything expensive, but I would prefer it to be a solid color so the pattern is not outdated in a year or 2. Any suggestions?? Thanks!

Re: Tote Rec's?

  • I think Vera Bradley totes are really cute.  I don't know if they have solids though.
  • I will try to remember to ask my sister what the label is in her bag. Sadly all my receipts from the wedding, along with all wedding related stuff was at my parents house. I'm not sure that they had just one plain color but I know I got the BM's a black on with pink. (pink lettering, handles). I will ask her when I see her next, (should be latter today).

  • As with Jessica-Kay, I have a tote that I gave my BMs with my name embroidered on it.  I got it from an ebay vendor.  It's not that big and there is no way to close it.
  • Two ideas - both ideal for traveling.

Longchamp - folds down to nothing, lightweight nylon.  Con: is that it has no real internal pockets/organization.

Other options great for travelling are LeSportsacs.

  • I like the LL Bean totes.  They're pretty sturdy and surprisingly can hold a lot of stuff.  Whatever you get, consider getting something with a zipper on top so that your stuff doesn't slide out when you're going through security and it makes it more difficult to pick-pocket when traveling.

I got my bridesmaids and myself totes from an ebay seller and I use mine all the time.  They were marketed as "diaper bags" but there's nothing specific that makes them baby related - just colors.  They tie across the top though.  Pockets on each side hold water bottles.

I can vouch for Longchamp!  I bought mine on our honeymoon and I love it!  I use it all the time.  She's right - no real pockets - but it's a good travel tote.  Plus it's very classic looking so it won't go out of style.
