MIL losing her job. . .

This is bad.

Mostly because I will have to endure the relentless b***ching for the next year. MIL teaches for UNF and was told today that her contract will not be renewed, giving her till next August to find another job.

The good news, is that gives HER a year to plan. The bad news is that it gives ME a year to hear about this, all day, every day. She is 7 years away from early retirement and in her specialty profession, jobs arent easily available, meaning she'd be lucky if she could even find a job in the relative ballpark of her old profession, and at 1/2 her current salary, too.

This happened to my father a couple of months ago when he was "forced" into a lesser position, paying less. I think it sucks that our parents are in such a fragile state and it really opens my eyes to thinking that I need to start planning my retirement NOW because I dont want to be anywhere near this vulnerable when Im reaching retirement.

This sucks.

Re: MIL losing her job. . .

  • Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. I hope that she's able to find something that suits her in that time, and you're absolutely right about planning for retirement. By the time we retire, there will be essentially zero Social Security left for us, so it's really completely up to the person to plan for their own cost of living.
  • I am sorry to hear that. I hope that she is able to find something quickly.

  • I am so sorry to hear that. At least she has a year to plan though. Hopefully she'll be able to find something.
  • How fortunate that she has a year's notice though!  GL to her finding something.
  • I'm so sorry, that really does suck :(
