Ever been to Napa?

Dh and I have some friends we want to go on a weekend trip with and we were thinking of Napa. What have your experiences been? Any recs?

Re: Ever been to Napa?

  • Ehhhh just do Temecula instead.... same thing....less of a drive.

But once DH and I drove through it.... pretty!!

  • I don't think you can really call Napa and Temecula the same thing. Temecula is desert ick. I've been there. Not interested. We really want to get away and I just know it's going to be beautiful. AND DH love Sonoma so...

  • OMG!!! Napa and Temecula are universes apart.

Kristy, email me at kimarino13 @ gmail and I will hook you up with some recs.  My ILs practically live in Napa they go there so much.  They emailed me all the good spots.  I just have to find and forward the email.  :)

  • You may also want to check out the Santa Ynez wine country, which is closer than Napa.  Great sauvignon blancs and a couple good reds too.  There are the "costco" wineries (i.e. Fess Parker, Firestone), but there are also many nice small vineyards (Zaca Mesa, Brander, La Fond) and a great row of tasting rooms in Los Olivos.

If you've seen Sideways... it's that area.  And the restaurant in the movie (The Hitching Post) is to die for.  Let me know if you'd like any recs!

  • YGM!

  • I do really like Sav Blanc wines. We'll have to check that out too.
  • You can NOT compare Napa and Temecula. I agree about Temecula Kristy- ick.

We absolutely loved our trip to Napa last year. We stayed at a B&B right near downtown. We didn't even need a car to go to eat, shopping, etc. Just to get to the wineries.  I recommend Angele and Bleux Magnolia for some great meals. The owner of Bleux Magnolia is from New Orleans and the food is great.  Celadon is also excellent.

If you have time, try and do a hot air balloon ride. It is the most romantic and fun expereince!
  • Sorry...it's Bleaux Magnolia.
  • Definitely recommend St. Helena/Napa/Sonoma over Temecula. If you're going to get away - why would you go somewhere you can go any day? Plus Napa's in Northern California - and ya'll know how I feel about NorCal. :) I second Laura's Santa Ynez suggestion. Haven't been - but anything up the coast is GORGEOUS! Cheers, Jen :)
