Recs on things to do / see..

So my husband and I are coming out there for two weeks (well, he'll be there for two, im only coming for one) and when he is not learning his new site, we want to see some things in the area so we are sort of familiar with what is around.

Do you ladies have any recs on things we should do? We'll be looking for restaurant ideas as well. We'll be at a hotel that has a restaurant, but im sure that'll get old after a few days.

We are also going to go out and check out a few towns that you guys suggested so that way we can start the process of house hunting! I cant wait to get out there in June! My kids are very unhappy though, that they are going to have to start school in July or August depending on where we chose to buy.  Here, they start the day after Labor Day, so their summer vacation is going to be cut WAY short.

  • I love going to downtown Scottsdale.  Fashion Square Mall is there.  There are also some shops nearby there.  There is also a trolley that will take you to Old Town which is nice to walk around.
  • I agree...the area around Fashion Square Mall is really nice. As long as your in the neighborhood and if you like Thai food, take a drive down Malee's on Main for lunch. It's sooooo good!

  • Where is your husbands new job?  I am a native, I have plenty (probably too many) recs.  My little guy is just a bit younger than your new baby!!
  • He is going to be working over near the Park Central Mall.  I dont really know what is around there, that is just what the bosses have said to him.

Are you guys still in the area??

  • Park Central Mall is old downtown Phoenix.  The new lightrail line runs on Central down to Washington and heads east.  The Biltmore area is nice (northeast of there near 24th st/Camelback).  You have some nice restaurants downtown that have been there awhile - Old Spaghetti Factory, Macayo's (Mexican), George & Dragon (bar).  There's a HUGE park at Central/Indian School - Steele Indian School park.  I was there yesterday for a free concert.  There is a pond, ducks, playground,... it's much bigger than I knew.  There's a cool taco/burrito joint at 5th St/Camelback that someone recommended here.  (Two Hippies Beach House)

  • Are you guys looking to live in that area as well?  It's not the best area, IMO, unless you can afford one of the gorgeous historic homes around the Central coridor or the Biltmore area. If you're just visiting though, the pp recommended some good places.  The Biltmore mall is really nice, and if you have a car I would suggest driving over to old town/downtown Scottsdale.

No, we are not looking to live in that area.  We plan to take a day and drive around Peoria and Glendale to check out a few houses and the schools and such. We'll just be staying at a hotel somewhere near there (A marriott,... not sure how many there are).

  • When you go to Peoria, check out the neighborhood, Vistancia.  It's in northern Peoria.  It's new and nice.    http://www.vistancia.com/
