What do you consider apple pie to be?

More of a fall food or more of a summer food?

Re: What do you consider apple pie to be?

  • More of a comfort food. I love my mom's apple pie. If I have to pick a season, I would say Fall.
  • When I think of apple pie I think of 4th of July. We also have it at Christmas. So for us it's really an any time pie

We do the same.  My initial thought was summer

  • I consider it to be an "any time it is in front of me I will eat it" food!

this is my train of thought as well

  • Definitely year round.  Labor Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, you name it.

  • I think of it as year round.

But I can see that if you grew up in an apple-growing area that it might be a fall food since that's when the harvest is.

  • i'll eat it year round without question BUT if you want to pin a season on it, it's 100% fall b/c apples are a fall fruit.

tangent: while i enjoy year round fruits, i think it's sad that we have no real concept of what is fresh when anymore since we can get anything we want year round... but there is nothing like getting something in its own region and in its own season!

What's sad about it?  How can you keep the doctor away if you can only have an apple a day in the Fall? Stick out tongue

I'm with the others on it being a year-round pie choice.

However, I definitely eat it according to season.  I like it fresh-from-the-oven hot with a crumbled top-crust in the Fall/Winter, with some extra flavors of winter like ginger and nutmeg spices in the recipe.  I like it slightly warm (not hot) a la mode in the spring (Houston Spring, when it is about 70-89 degrees outside).  And I like it fresh from the refrigerator cold during the summer.  On the 4th of July I like to have it taken from the "ice box" and served right away so it is cool and sort of refreshing.  It would definitely not have strong flavors of ginger or nutmeg in the recipe, and would instead have more of a cinnamon-sugar sweetness with the crisp cool apple flavor.

I likes me some apple pie.

  • MB - I'm sorta like you.

    Crumb top & hot = fall/winter

    Lattice top & cold = spring/summer

  • I cannot stomach cold apple pie.  Blech!  It has to be warm with ice cream, therefore it is a fall pie in my book.
