Who has their bloodwork done at MIF?

I just got my explanation of benefits for my bloodwork last mont and an HCG and progesterone test is $225. ?Thanks goodness I only have to pay $25 of that, but I did have 5 of these done. ?Ouch.

I cannot believe that is what they can charge for 2 vials of blood. ?Does anyone know what MIF charges before insurance pays??

Re: Who has their bloodwork done at MIF?

  • I was just comparing a statement from MIF and my OB (both for hcg draws) and it was outragious.  MIF charges WAY more than anywhere I have seen.   So far, I just have had to pay a $5 copay for each draw.  I am kind of nervous they will charge me differently for the draw I had this week when I was freaking out.  I don't think they wanted me to do another one, but I needed to see it.

  • I had this bloodwork done at the hospital DH works at so my portion to pay is only 5% instead of the 20% I will pay at MIF

I am thinking about telling Cooper I don't want to check to see if my betas are doubling the next time I'm pg. ?It just causes way too much stress. ?

  • Is there a preferred lab that your insurance company likes you to use? For example when I was employed, Principal liked you to use Quest so we got reduced rates there. I just had my draws done at their lab instead of MIF or if MIF did it I had it sent to a Quest lab. HTH

  • Yeah, it's cheaper for me if I use the lab at the hospital where DH works.

I just don't know if I can do the RPL testing and the karotyping at that hospital or of they would rather I did that at MIF's lab. ?Guess I will find out in a few weeks.?

  • I just saw the RPL test question you added.  I did mine at the hospital.  I was sort of still with my OB, but witching to MIF at the time.  I didn't pay for much.  I know how frustrating it can be to figure out all this insurance crap and what hoops you have to jump through.  GL.

  • I don't got to MIF, but that seems high.  I had 18 viles of blood drawn to test for clotting disorders.  I think they ran 14 or 15 different tests and my total bill was $300.11.  Now, I'm curious to see what my betas and progesterone cost!

  • I just had my BW done there last week so I haven't seen my statement yet- but yikes! Now I'm worried about it- I do have ins. that covers 'testing' not 'treatment' so hopefully ins. will cover some of the cost!
