Favorite Married Date Night Activities

Next week I have a bonus day off and would like to plan something fun and new for my husband and I to do. He works third shift in law enforcement Wednesday through Saturday night and I work an 8-5 Monday through Friday. I am really looking forward to having this extra time with him so I'm looking for exciting ideas. He loves sports, we do enjoy movies, and we like to cook together. I am really open to any idea.

Re: Favorite Married Date Night Activities

  • Hmm, well hooray for time together! My husband works a similiar off schedule so I know your frustration in pre-planning. Here are some ideas, but I guess it really depends on you guys:

Watch a sporting event (football/basketball/hockey) together. Perhaps you could both cook some snacks pre-game and leave the crock pot going during the game? Have a nice dinner post game?

Go to a dinner and movie, or vice versa, discuss the movie at dinner.

If the weather's nice go out for a walk/hike just enjoy the outdoors before winter.

I'm all for getting a movie and staying in as well. Maybe spend the day cooking then watch the movie at night after dinner? Get a nice bottle of wine and enjoy each other's company.
  • How about a cooking class?

The issue for couples who work opposite schedules is that your time is super limited. The husband might not have worked this same schedule (or job) pre-marriage. Sometimes the short window you're together doesn't align with the hours of what you want to do.

I just read this article the other day as firefighters have similiar (off/weird) schedules. It wasn't all that helpful since I'm like you working full time Mon-Fri  and go 48 hours without seeing DH, it rules out day dates or morning's out instead of nights but it might help spark an idea http://firefighterwife.com/blog/2013/09/18/fire-wife-date-nights-compensating-for-our-crazy-schedules/
  • Our best dates have been when we took a few cooking classes.  OUr favorite one was thanksgiving foods.
