WWPND - UPDATE!

What would Philly nesties do?

We are in a condo, one of the neighbors above us is a hairdresser. I actually came across a review for him on yelp while looking for a place to get my nails done. I mentioned it to him and he didn't even know what yelp was, so I don't think it was a planted message.

My question: I am in desperate need of a haircut. We are headed to Pville this weekend, but my stylist isn't there so I would have to see a new person. I've debated going to the neighbor, but what if I don't like the job he does. The day I met him he introduced himself and told me he was the best hairdresser around. I told him I was waiting for my hair to fall out after the baby (which hasn't started happening) to do anything.

Thoughts? Would you go to your neighbor? Or should I see someone else at the same salon? FWIW We'll be in Pville every month for the foreseeable future.

Re: WWPND - UPDATE!

  • I would continue to see your old stylist in town, and would ask for recommendations in your new place. I am hesitant to use any close friend or nearby neighbor for regular services (like a hairdresser). I probably wouldn't go to another stylist at the same salon in Pville, unless I was never going to return.

  • I MUST get a haircut, I am looking seriously shaggy and I have a big even the following weekend.

  • i say give it a try.  It's just hair, it will grow back.

And if it's really horrendous, snag yourself one of those Jessica Simpson white girl weaves ;)

  • why not tell him that your regular stylist is on vacation and you need a haircut and thought of him.  If it works out great. If not he knew it was a one time thing and you have an out.

Love this idea. Totally an out if I need it. I have shorter hair, so it's noticeable when it gets too long.

  • Oh hell no. I'm choosey as fuck. Do you want to try to make an appt with my lady? She's fantastic but in south Philly.
  • I tried to make an appointment for today, but our schedules didn't mesh. The receptionist told me I was welcome to bring B, who is 3. I snorted and was a little appalled. I don't want kids in the salon while I'm trying to relax, mine or others. I wouldn't leave or complain if it happened, because I know stuff happens, but I go out of my way to NOT bring my kid. I don't know how I feel about a place that is kid friendly.

  • And....I hate it. It's very safe/conservative. I've had this haircut before. I can't tell if he was safe because he doesn't know me. I did show him a picture of my previous haircut and he told me it was the wrong one for me. The one that I liked and got a ton of compliments. It was worth a shot, right and it's just hair. Plus mine is about to fall out soon.

  • That stinks. I hope it grows out quickly so you can go to your regular stylist!!

Phoenixville. It's in Chester Co, not far from Valley Forge Park.
  • Phoenixville is considered Chester Co? I didn't know that.  I always thought it was MontCo.

You are probably under this impression because the Phoenixville post office serves a ridiculous part of Montco, but the actual borough is in Chesco. The Schuylkill River separates Montco and Chesco and the town is on the west bank of the river.

The line is abundantly obvious at snow removal time.
