Fine China Dinnerware

Hello

I am looking to start a collection of china for special occasions. I have no clue what brands are good and which are not. My mother mentioned Royal Doulton but other than that I have no idea. Can anyone give me some help with this by recommending their china or brands that they know of?

TIA

Re: Fine China Dinnerware

  • I have Royal Doulton's Tonkin pattern from my grandparents, but check out patterns from Wedgwood, Lenox, Waterford, Mikasa, Noritake, Spode, Villeroy and Boch, and now even some designers like Vera Wang and Monique Lhullier have fine china, too.
  • My DD chose Pickard Signature china & it is personalized with her monogram. It is classic & gorgeous. She can mix it with Vera Wang at Christmas, Kate Spade accent plates & I love the versatility of this pattern. Also, it is made in the US & has long been used in the White House.
  • I have Waterford china and Pfaltzgraff holiday china.  Whichever brand you choose, be sure you can register yourself with the company so they will notify you if the line is ever discontinued so you can make replacements if necessary.

  • My formal china is Coronet Platinum by Lenox. I like it because it is pretty simple...just some platinum scrollwork around the edge. I think it will be easy to use along with some other patterns later if I am fortunate enough to be able to have more than one pattern. It is fun to have formal "special occasion" china. Enjoy!
