tell me about leg waxing

I usually feel pretty knowledgeable about most beauty/salon processes, but I've never had my legs waxed and now that it's getting more and more difficult to shave my legs (due to my ever expanding belly) I'm thinking of getting it done.

How long does the hair have to be? How fast will it grow back? How long do I have to wait between waxings? Is is worth the $$?

Also, the hair on my legs is fairly fine, can I still get it done?

And where (in Arlington/Falls Church area) do you recommend I go?

Re: tell me about leg waxing

  • 1/4 inch long is prob best.  Mine always grew back in about 2-3 weeks.  The more you wax the less it comes back though IMO.  Prob not worth the money... and I've heard it hurts worse if you're pregnant due to hormones.

  • It was painful for me the first time I think out of shock! But such a great thing, I always get anxious once I know they have to take it off...perfect if you hate shaving it does take a while to grow back! No matter how cold it is outside do not wear jeans when you go I repeat do not wear jeans! Sorry I don't have recs in Arlington/Falls Church...I feel its worth the money...

  • I've done it a few times, but I tend to get annoyed by the hair as I am growing it out to be waxed and so I just break down and shave it! ?But yeah, shaving is getting to be a pain with the expanding belly.?

In terms of how long the hair needs to be, I would say at least 1/4". ?Then I'd wait 6 weeks or so between waxings.

I absolutely love my waxer, Geneen at Natural Body in the Ballston Mall.?

why should I not wear jeans? is it just jeans, or no long pants at all?

  • I think jeans rub your skin the wrong way after going through something so traumatic!!  Personally I get goosebumps when I waxed and wore pants that rubbed up against the skin like jeans would.  The goosebumps actually hurt a lil bit.

  • I got it done once.

It hurt like hell.  Especially when they did the back of my thighs.

    Ouch.

    Haven't had it done since.

  • I have been having my leg waxed or doing it myself for years and love the results. 1/4 inch is a good length. I think usually it lasts for 4-6 weeks and my hair is very fine now and it works well. I like Tara Salon in Georgetown.

  • I loved getting my legs waxed (did it for wedding/honeymoon) and would if it weren't for the cost.  I found that waxing (bikini) was a bit more painful during pregnancy, but still kept it up.  I second Tara Salon, I went there and saw Linda for 7 yrs before moving for brow & bikini.
