Good Morning

I hope everyone is enjoying their weekends.  It's snowing here and we are having a relaxing morning.  Anything exciting going on in your part of the world?

Re: Good Morning

  • Hi.  You dog is so cute.  What's his/her name? I am cleaning the house and about to go for a walk up the mountains with a friend and our dogs.  Doing a little holiday shopping this afternoon... Enjoy the snow.  None here, but it is freezing cold! Have a good one.
  • Enjoy the snow!  I wish it would snow over here!

This is Dante - he's an Italian mastiff.  The pic is from May 2006, now he's much bigger, weighing in at 140lb.  He lives in the states now with family, but we will get him back in several years.

What kind of dogs do you have?  Dogs are great, like another member of the family.

  • Mastiffs are great dogs.  My brother's in-laws have two.  Funny b/c their other dog is a Yorkie-the 3 of them are best buddies.

We only have one dog-a golden retriever called Lucy (she's 4).  She is with us here. My friend that we walk with has a 2 jack russell mixes.

Yes, they are like members of the family-she is great company :)

  • Good afternoon INs! ?We have finally made it out of our three-day stupor. ?Last night, we went to a colleague's house for Thanksgiving. ?It was so anti-Thanksgiving, ending in a smoking session (and no, not cigarettes.) ?It was so strange.

Today, we are having a very small, just DH and me, Thanksgiving. ?I feel like after everything we've been through, we need time to ourselves, to celebrate all we are thankful for.

Alwysbsy, why did you leave Dante in the States? ?Just wondering, not trying to be mean. ?You guys must miss him!!?

  • I love love love mastiffs.  They are beautiful.  My college friend had an african mastiff and it ate raw meat.  The dog's grocery bill was actually higher than his grocery bill!

Did you leave him in the states because of quarenteen rules?  I would have too.  One of the major reasons we choose Amsterdam was because your doggies could move right along with you.

  • Hi ladies, I just got back from walking around a nearby little town and a wine tasting.  We left Dante behind because mastiffs are on a list in Germany (along with most big breeds) that require temperament testing, insurance incase of incidents, etc.  On a more practical note, we didn't know where we would be living, how hard it would be to find a house with a yard within our budget, etc.  Dante is with my BIL who is more than thrilled to have him, and has an acre fenced in yard.

My parents have a miniature schnauzer who was always the alpha dog when we brought Dante around.  They also have a cairn terrier, they were friends before Dante grew up, but now she is scared and would hide in the basement when we came over.

As for food, we were lucky there was a place nearby that made natural dog food, and delivered.  Delivery was very nice, as he ate quite a bit!
