Key West

DH and I are going to Key West for a week in July.  We're planning on seeing the Dry Tortugas, but don't have any other set plans.

Any suggestions for things to definitely do/see?  Or any general advice?

  • Doing the sunset on Mallory Square is a a typical thing to do.  There are street performers and vendors there to keep you entertained.  I enjoyed Hemingway's house.  It's a really cute house and give you a shot of culture among the debauchery.  If your hotel isn't on the beach, check out the beach at Fort Zachary Taylor.

The dry tortugas are awesome!  You won't regret that.

I always enjoy getting breakfast on the patio of Blue Heaven.  There are chickens and baby chicks walking around.

If you have a car and want to get off the key, Bahai Honda State park has a really beautiful beach.  If you are into snorkeling or diving, Looe Key is a really great place for that.  There are nurse sharks in the water and barracuda.  They won't hurt you.

  • I visited Key West as part of a trip to Miami several years ago and have a blog entry from the trip here:

  • If you're renting a car, driving over the 7 mile bridge is a must! Miami is only a little over 3 hours away.

You mentioned having a really great slice of key lime pie AFTER going to the key lime pie factory, but I didn't see the name of the place the really yummy pie was from.  Do you remember what it was called?
