Shin Splints

I just got back into running using C25K. As I've increased my speed and time, I'm getting terrible shin splints. I've started stretching more and bought new sneakers as mine were over a year old. I'll give myself 2-3 days off if my legs are sore. Any suggestions for avoiding them?  TIA!

Re: Shin Splints

  • Walk on inclines/ramps.

  • The main cause of shin splints is overuse, so it stands to reason that the best way to avoid them is to rest. 2-3 days between runs is good. Also, don't do too much too fast. You shouldn't add more than 10% to your distance each week and shouldn't try

  • Thank you so much for your responses. I took three days off from jogging but took my son for walks. When I jogged Sunday, I stretched a lot and took my time. I also really paid attention to my form. Compression pants have helped a lot as well. Thanks agai
