50 Shades of Grey

So I finished all 3 books in the trilogy of 50 Shades of Grey and....I can't stop thinking about Christian Grey!! LOVED the books and couldn't put them down...thank goodness for my Kindle so I didn't have to feel self conscious about reading this in public.  It's so explicit that it should probably be banned lol.  So I pictured Edward Cullen in my head the entire time since E.L. James based her characters off of Twilight.  I know that R Patz won't be playing Christian but I just want to know other readers envisioned while reading?  My husband is not a reader but said that he appreciates me reading these books because it def. gave me some ideas to try at home Wink

Re: 50 Shades of Grey

  • I loved them all too!  I went to the public library to borrow the first one NOT knowing what it was about at all!! But then I went to the book store and bought all 3.  In fact, the book store by my was sold out of the 1st one, so I was on a waiting list.  I pictured Ian S. (forget how to spell his last name) from the Vampire Diaries as Christian Grey. I really hope Universal makes a movie out of the series (they bought the movie rights).

  • I just started the first book today!  I'm really hoping it lives up to the hype!
  • The writing is terrible and repetitive. I did want to know how it ended but there was so much that just didn't work.
  • I've never read Twilight, or seen the movies. I didn't picture any real person, just a guy I envisioned based on her description. I have only read the 1st book so far, waiting on the 2nd and 3rd from a friend who's lent them out to someone else first.
  • I saw Damon from vampire diaries when I read this as Christan.

  • I just bought the triology last week and I'm already rereading them.  She uses certain words a lot (murmur, for example) and it's not the best writing I've ever seen, but I really like the story line and their love for each other!  I didn't associate it to Edward and Bella at all until I heard that it was originally a fan fiction for Twilight.  I definitely don't see Robert Pattinson in that role.  I had heard that Ian Somerhalder (Vampire Diaries) was vying for the role of Christian Grey, so I tended to picture him a lot when I was reading.  I can't wait for the movie to come out! :)

  • Loved the books!!!!  I didn't really see anyone but who she described.

I totally agree! I was excited to read it, but the writing is awful! And I HATE reading in the present tense. Couldn't even finish the first one.

  • They are brain candy. Great for when I needed a break from heavier reads and just to fill my head with mindless crap.

yes, the writing is bad, there's no plot whatsoever, and the characters annoyed the living hell out of me, but it was good brain candy. Like pixy sticks for my mind. LOL

  • I've read the first book and half of the second. I just don't think I can read anymore, luckily I got them at a decent price for all three on my kindle. It isn't the writing that puts me off or anything, I just can't read it anymore.

But to answer the question, I did not picture anyone in the roles. I just based the characters on their description. I can never really place other chracters in roles other than their own.

If I had known it was as explicit as it was, I probably wouldn't have bought it. I am usually not into stories like that....I might as well have been reading porn. Oh well....my opinion. Zip it!

    Read some real books.

    True the writing is weak.

True it is said to be fanfiction

    True its an easy read.

    SO, they're still real books.

And who's to say that these aren't a series of books women are reading while taking a break from reading a more serious genre? I read them while I was laid up post surgery because I wasn't feeling well and a memoir just wasn't cutting it.

Women reading the 50 Shades trilogy are still capable of reading real books and like one of the other pps said, its brain candy... like trash tv, just in a book.

  • I loved the books...more than I thought I would. And I cannot stop thinking about Christian too! However, I think in real life the relationship would be horrible! I could not picture Christian while I was reading it, I could only picture his body (which was fine by me!) These are the first books I actually started to re-read. Usually once I am done with a book I never look back. Something about Christian though....mmmm yum!
  • I have to say that I'm with the majority of people who've read the books in that I read them because they're an easy read. I definitely felt my IQ drop a few points after reading them. As far as picturing someone to play Christian, I'd say I thought more about the body than the face. I'd say Ian Somerhalder would be a great choice, but I also read something about Alexander Skarsgard being interested in the part as well. His body isn't so bad to look at either...

  • Probably not going to happen, but I would love it if Matt Bomer was Christian.
