So I think I might be screwed

My neighbors, my dear, dog-loving, dog walking, let the dogs out during the day and feed them if I am home late from work neighbors, in addition to being a culinary student who insists on providing me with culinary masterpieces neighbor, is MOVING! In 3 WEEKS!!

I want to give them something to say/ show a massive thanks for all they have done for the past 10 months, but it either needs to be small or not an item because they are driving from LA to Chicago in a tiny car. I was thinking of taking them out to a nice dinner so say goodbye, but I feel like I want to get them something else. Any ideas??

Andplusalso- the dogs learned that if they just knock the garbage can over, they can have really easy access to the contents. No more fiddling with the foot pedal for them! It was really nice to walk into my living room strewn with garage after a long day of work.

Re: So I think I might be screwed

  • If they're driving you could get them a gas card. Or a Subway gift card (or other food restaurant). It would be practical and help cut down on their travel expense.

You could provide them with a "snack basket" of goodies to munch on while traveling or a list of fun things to do in the car.

I def. think you should still take them out to dinner! Try to be sneaky and find out what their favorite restaurant is (if you don't already know!)

  • Oh, I like the gas card idea, but I don't know if they will always have the same gas station along the way. I think they would really like the munchy snack basket!

I was thinking about a Sur La Table gift card so he could get some fancy cooking utensils that he might not spring for otherwise...

I already told them they could pick the restaurant, so no surprises there.

  • I also love the snack basket idea.  Like you said, you can't be sure what gas stations they'll pass on their way.  This is one of those times I wish I could call Heaven (I have them a lot actually).  My grandparents drove back and forth from PA to California several time (grandma can't fly).  I would call grandpa and ask him what gas card he recommended for you.  :)

  • Ditto pps re: gift ideas.  For your trashcan issue-my sister and her BF had the same issue with their boxer mix, and ended up having to buy one of those impenetrable trash cabinets b/c it was the only thing that Lucy couldn't get into.  Thankfully so far its justified its cost (and kept Luce out of the trash) but hopefully you can come up with a solution that doesn't involve spending money :$
