What's Fun in Your Neck of the Woods?

My DH and I recently went on a great cross country trip, and we realized that there are so many great things offered in each town or city that make it special.  Each new place we travelled to, we wondered what a 'day in the life' of one of the citizens would be like.  Well, it's summer, and of course a lot of places have many great activities going on this time of year.  What is something special that your city does, places that are must-visit, food joints that you can't miss, etc?  Does your town/city have any big festivals coming soon?

Fayetteville, for instance, does this totally awesome program during the summer, where you can (for FREE) go to the local city swimming pool and watch a movie on a Friday night.  There are about 5 showings a summer, I think, of different family oriented movies, and all you have to do is bring a floatie and lounge in the pool and watch away!

If you come to Fayetteville, it's also a must to go to the Saturday morning farmer's market, but not until you've stopped by Rick's Bakery for some awesome breakfast.

  • I know it's been a couple of months but I figured I'd go ahead and reply.

I live in Fort Smith. One of the cool things (super awesome if you have kids) that I've found is that during the summer one of the movie theaters shows kids/family movies on Tuesday mornings and admission is a canned good per person. Not bad if you find yourself with nothing else to do on a Tuesday morning.

There are a ridiculous number of parks in this area. DH and I even got married at the River Park! Nothing that screams individuality....but it's definitely part of a day in the life of us. :)

We have a small farmers market a couple of times a week but it's not nearly as fantastic as Fayettevilles. We drive up and go with DH's parents sometimes...and <3333 it.

Other fun things pop up now and again. Tonight we saw Andy Grammer,  The Fray, and Girl Talk for a whoppin' $11 each. That was awesome! Rock the River is next week but I have no idea who is playing. But you just kinda have to look around.

As far as food places go, our favorite place is this little bitty made to order chinese food place called Hong Kong. The best wontons I've ever had and their handmade lo mein noodles are totally worth the extra buck.
