May flowers (blatant AWing)

Of course, we're still getting April showers.

Solomon's Seal  (This year I noticed it has a soft, pleasant scent)

Not in flower, but I'm crazy about how Lady's Mantle looks after a rain.

Some sort of clematis. I picked it up at a Farmer's Market and I can't remember the variety.

Bleeding heart and another clump of Solomon's Seal.

Hellebore still going strong and hosta starting to poke out.

Apple blossoms.

What's blooming for you?

Sometimes I wonder if scientists have never seen a sci-fi movie before. "Oh yes, let's create a super species of deer. NOTHING COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG." I wonder if State Farm offers a Zombie Deer Attack policy. -CaliopeSpidrman

Wow! That's a beautiful garden! I just love shade gardens, and it looks as if yours is sizeable. I've got nowhere near that much space.

  • My vibrant purbple iris's are out and the clump exploded this year. Also just behind them my climbing roses are also out and look great this year even though I did nothing to winterize them last fall.

I had a surprise flower come back froma nursery pot (can't remember name, was a clearance buy) and I planted that next to my Columbine I thought was also dead due to trampeling from the painters last fall. So I have a purple and red bed by the front of my house. I am looking to buy some white flowering perannials to add to it this year.

  • I need to take pictures of our beds.  Out front our hydrangeas are getting ready to bloom, columbine is nice and big and colorful, and our hostas are crazyhuge.  I added some bleeding heart this year but they are tiny this year, next year I imagine they will actually get big and bloom.  I added some begonias to the shade beds out front and they are doing well.

In back it's mostly annuals as I just started adding perennials this year, but a few gladiolus are coming up.

  • You are just behind us Mouse.  I'm loving those dark purple helleborus!  Mine were a light maroon color but it's a lot more faded than yours. Those bleeding heart looks nice and happy too.  I have a ton of pictures that I'll have to upload but I'm very busy this week with clients in town (ie all day meetings and evening events).

  • We should do a bloom day periodically, just to show off and check out other people's stuff. Thank you for the compliments, I'm very proud of the work I've put in.

NB- we do have a sizeable front yard. Luckily(?) I live in a very working class neighborhood and no one cares much if I have a jungle/farm growing in front. We also have a lot of beekeepers and urban homesteaders on our street.

I love purple and red together. My spring yard is pretty neutral, but by summer it's mostly bright contrasts.

I love hydrangea, but the one I have doesn't bloom until August. I envy the ones that go all summer.

Foxi- There are so many neat hellebore hybrids out there. I was drooling over some of the new doubles. Maybe I'll get them next year.

Lucky you. I've only been to Portland once, for the Arbor Day conference in 2009; but they gave us a cool urban forestry tour.
