vacationing with your pups

DH and I are National Park Junkies and are lucky to live out west where National Parks abound within a 1-2 day drive.  Problem:  NPs don't let dogs on the trails and we love to hike.  Any suggestions on what to do with our pups?? We still want to enjoy the national parks and don't really want to leave our furbaby behind when we do.

Any other great vacation ideas (any time of year) to vacation with your dogs?  Within a 2 day drive of the Pacific NW?

Re: vacationing with your pups

  • We took Cal to Mendocino with us over Thanksgiving, 2008.  We stayed at the Stanford Inn, which is a pet friendly lodge.  The accommodations were amazing, and Mendocino is just gorgeous.  Miles and miles of beautiful coastline, a very long paved trail for walking along the Big River, and the Russian Gulch State Park is nearby (though I don't know if they're pet-friendly).  We had a wonderful time, and would go back in a heartbeat if we still lived in California.
