My thoughts on Teen Mom's Farrah

Her parents and everyone keep saying that she needs to not even think about dating and focus on her daughter and supporting her. Correct me if I'm wrong, but they're from BumFuckedHickville, right? Well, in small towns, girls grow up and get married before they're 20, so it's probably ingrained in her that finding a husband is the best thing to do to support and take care of her daughter. After all, she's certainly not going to be able to support Sofia on Buffalo Wild Wings tips when her parents decide that it's time for them to move out. It sounds like self preservation to me.

  • Yeah, but it's not like she is 35 and still single.

  • I don't think that she shouldn't date at all, but she's so zoned in to trying to date and find a dad for Sofia. It bugs me that her priority seems to be going out and dating, and not her daughter.

  • She might not BE 35, but in small town life, being 22 and unmarried is cause for you to be gossiped about and ostracized like you ARE 35 and unmarried. When all of your friends are married, you lose your friends when you're not, and people look down on you and shake their heads, saying, "Poor Farrah, what's wrong with her? She just can't find a husband." Which makes it harder and harder to find someone as you get older, because you have that reputation.

Been there, lived the small town midwestern life, so yes, it does happen, believe it or not.

  • Also, I'm from Nebraska, and she's from Omaha/council bluffs. It's a fairly metro area. Not exactly BFE. I'm from a much smaller town than omaha, and and my focus was not on getting married young. It's her entitled mentality not a product of her BFE surroundings.
  • Hmm...  I grew up in a small midwestern town, moved to a different one when I got married, and now work in yet an entirely different small town.  None of these small towns (populations no greater than 2000) have that mentality.  Huh?

  • I am from Des Moines, IA, am 24 and less than 1/2 of my friends are married.  It's simply not true that girls are 'talked about' for not being married at a young age. Farrah is just a moron! Her parents need to say no to babysitting so much, and then she won't be able to go out. Problem solved. Oh, and her father needs a little reality check -- does he really think she's not going to have sex?! Be glad she took the initiative to even GET birth control ! Last thing she needs is another kid!

Also, it is a tv show, so for all we know she goes out once a month and it's all they show on the program -- Just my 2 cents :)

  • Yeah, this may have been true about small town life in the 1950s or even the 1970s, but it definitely isn't the case now. I grew up in a town in rural Missouri with 300 citizens. Of the 12 girls in my graduating class, the ones who are married are NOT the ones who have kids. Seems like you either get out of town and grow up, or stay in town and have babies out of wedlock.

Nobody gossips about people who aren't married. Once you are married they do keep asking when you are going to have babies.

  • You don't think people are already gossiping about Farrah being 18 with a kid?  Gossiping about her being single would seem to take a backseat to what's already out there.

Good god. It's true that Farrah is working at Buffalo Wild Wings right now, but even she knows this is temporary. She talks about it regularly: the fact that she needs to make more money to support Sophia (sans man BTW) add onto that the fact that she's going to culinary school. Which a previous poster has pointed out is no easy life, but it's something--some future.

If this ideal were truly ingrained in her, don't you think her parents would then support her going out and dating--trying to find this father figure for her child?

Cripes, you may be from a small town--but are you from a time warp too?

I didn't mean it negatively.  What I meant by that was that it seems like she NEEDS to find someone.

  • BlueIris you are right... Farrah is a complete MORON! I agree that they probably make her look worse than she really is with editing and what not, but oh my I get so mad watching her! I guess that's teenage motherhood.
