Advice needed (work related)

Honestly you don't owe her an explanation.  I wouldn't bring it up again. It's bad form to talk about how much you make, or how much someone else makes not to mention against company policy in many places.

I would let her be pissed for awhile and give it some time to blow over. Also if you were just looking through the file she wouldn't really be able to "accidentally" see the papers she had to be at least somewhat curious/ nosy about it.

If she brings it up simply say "I am sorry you are upset about it but I'm not comfortable discussing my salary with co-workers" and leave it at that.

Re: Advice needed (work related)

  • shame on her for being nosy enough to peek, now she's miserable and has to deal with that. You owe her nothing, including an explanation. If you feel you do in light of that, tell her that if she wants to talk, you are there.
  • Thanks girls.  I feel much better.
  • I wouldn't worry about it. People make different salaries, that's just a fact of life. And those with more experience are naturally paid more $$. I think it's immature for her to be upset with you over it. She can always get a higher-paying job if she's not satisfied. I wouldn't trouble yourself over it.
