doing any fall activities?

ok ... other than football games Wink b/c that's going to be the most common answer!

are you doing any specific outdoor activities this fall? things that get you out to enjoy the crisp air and fall foliage.

i'm thinking about maybe an Oktoberfest. i'd like to go hiking with the hubs and pup. and a NC winery tour sounds like a good idea to throw into the mix too.

Re: doing any fall activities?

  • We are going to a flashlight corn maze next week and then a bonfire, and we are hoping to make it up to Biltmore when the leaves start changing.

  • We may meet up with an old friend of DH's at the Hickory Oktoberfest.

BIL wants to check out the corn maze near our house next weekend.

DH proposed a pumpkin carving contest. I think I've carved a pumpkin maybe once before and it didn't turn out so well, so that should be interesting.

    A winery sounds good!

In NJ we'd go apple picking every year, but I haven't found a place down here that lets you pick your own apples.

  • We do pumpkins every year!!  Its almost like a contest b.c mine always comes out better than DH so he is always trying to out do me.

The County Fair!!!!  To me thats like the start to Fall.  It begins Oct. 1 and I can not wait.

A NC winery tour would be fab-o!

  • I would freaking LOVE to go to one of the Forest of Horror type things.  I'm a glutton for punishment--they scare the bejesus out of me, but I just LOVE them.  Unfortunately, DH does scare easily (doesn't get the joy I do) so unless I go with friends, that's a no-go.

I too would really like to go apple picking, if we could find a place to go.  I'd also like to do a corn maze--DH likes hayrides too, so I'd probably be up for that as well.

  • We are planning a day trip to Boone sometime in October.  If you're interested in a wine tour...Shelton Vineyards is having a Harvest Festival October 10-11.  A few friends of mine and myself will be going that Saturday, and we are going to see some other vineyards while we are up that way.

I've been on a NC Wine kick lately, my mom and I have done 2 wine trips in the Yadkin Valley area and we always have the best time!

  • hmmm i wonder if i could convince DH to do a winery for my birthday...

our new "activity" is taking a ride in our new car.  DH is very excited for fall!

  • In addition to football, State Fair, pumpkin picking/hayride, pumpkin carving, Farmer's Market for mums.

Our house is already decorated for fall/Halloween (except for the outside). For outside we'll probably make a scarecrow!

  • If we could get a weekend that would calm down, I would love to make a big pot of chili and start a fire and just sit around the fire pit outside and chill but DH and I are on the go so much right now. We're doing our fall cleaning, closing the pool, putting the garden to bed.

Next week i will be setting out all my fall decorations hopefully.

Women are angels. And when someone breaks our wings, well, we simply continue to fly......on a broomstick. We're flexible like that.

  • We are going to the Oktoberfest that was mentioned in a pp.  Also, we might go to Carowinds for their scary Halloween stuff. There is also a corn maze we found where you can bring your dog.. so Colby would love that!

Go here and see what you can find. This site lists all kinds of pick-your-own places and there are suggestions for corn mazes and things too.

A winery sounds good, I hadn't thought of that. Thanks for the suggestion ladies.

We're going to the apple festival in Wilkes next weekend. We haven't been in several years so I'm really looking forward to it.

DH is going to be OOT during prime leaf looking season. Sad

  • We're adding a Haunted History tour of the French Quarter to our NOLA trip :)
  • We always carve pumpkins.  I am hoping to talk DH into going to the fair (our county fair is always great and starts Oct 1!) but he hates it so we'll see how that goes.  We usually hit up the corn maze too!

  • The state fair is a definite fall activity

I'm excited to carve pumpkins this year and have a real stoop to put them on - I've lived in an apartment for so long I forget what's it like to carve pumpkins!

eating all sorts of pumpkiny products

    Halloween!!

I'd love to go pick some apples somewhere - but our october is pretty booked, so Im not sure we're going to have a chance to do that.
