Question about highlights

Hello, ladies! I have never dyed or highlighted my hair before, but I am going to start due to the explosion of gray hair that has invaded my head. I think I am going to start slowly with some subtle highlights. Is it better to go darker or lighter than my original color, or is it just personal preference? My natural hair color, before this stupid gray, has been light brown with some lighter brown/blonde/red highlights. I really was happy with my hair color....sigh....

Re: Question about highlights

  • I don't think any of us can make a legit suggestion considering we don't have the professional experience.  I would just make sure whoever you go to for your hair is a good colorist...and they will know what is best.

  • Maybe I didn't word that right. Sorry about that! What has been your experience, if you have had you hair highlighted/dyed? Does that make more sense?
  • I think the shade to go with is just personal preference. ?Whether you want to go with highlights (lighter than your current shade) or lowlights (a darker shade), or a combination of the two, just talk to your stylist and see what they recommend. ?They probably won't want to do anything too drastic for your first time. ?Keep in mind it might take a couple tries to get a shade that you love. ?Good luck!!!
