Nursery "progress"

This is what the room currently looks like.  This also happens to be how the room looked when we moved in.  Yes, that is green sponge painting.

We have a LOT of work to do!

Re: Nursery "progress"

  • I can't wait to see the final product!
  • Wow, that's some paint job!  I can't wait to see what you do.  Princess Pookie is going to have the best room ever!

  • My recommendation - GOOD PRIMER! You would be surprised how much time and effort a good primer can save you! If you paint right over that green, especially in pink, you will have to do several coats. Kilz does a great job and you will only need to prime once, then paint once. Also, when you finally pick your paint color, I recommend shelling out the extra couple of bucks to go with a better brand paint, like Behr, to assist with the process above.

Good luck! I cant wait to see it finished, too!

  • There is nothing classier than green sponge paint.
  • Well, at least it can't get worse, right?

I agree with pp about primer, especially going from that green to pink.  And double - especially with the color variations (ahem, sponging).

  • DH bought Olympic Zero VOC formula since we don't want the fumes to bother me.  Hope that works to cover the green monster!

Totally agree with this!  We had to cover up red paint in B's nursery, one coat of Kilz did it.  (Yiou can also have the primer tinted pink, we had B's tinted blue.)

That's some paint job though.. wow.  Reminds me of DH's old roomate's room.. he sponge painted it red, it looked like someone's head exploded in his room.  He also paid no mind to the baseboards or trim.. yeah, that was fun to repaint!

  • It looked like someone barfed up a forest in there!
  • I honestly thought it was wallpaper.  yuck.

I'm sure you guys will have it covered it in no time.

  • wow.  i totally feel for you.  when DH bought his house, the entire living room and hallway looked just like that, except dark pinkish purple sponge paint instead.  seriously, what were people thinking??
  • Oh gosh, that's awful!!!  I'm so sorry!!

Our house had something similar in the kitchen when we bought it.  It was neutral colors, not green, but still -- yuck.  Took me a couple years to convincce DH to paint over it too!!!

If it's any consolation, my nursery is in a very similar state!!!!  Except it's filled with DH's weight lifting equipment.  And it's painted this gorgeous, yummy dark chocolate brown color that I spent forever picking out, but that we're now going to have to paint over to make it pink!  :-(  Oh well!!!

  • Darcy, maybe you could do a bunch of accents in pink? Chocolate and pink look fantastic together, and very girly.
  • We had to paint the master bedroom before we moved into the house because it was a DARK burgundy.  We put up two coats of primer and then covered it with a nice soothing sage green color.  I wish I had before pics on this computer!

Here's before and after pics of our dining room.  This is actually not the most "before" pic because I had already taken down the wallpaper, but you can still see the glue covering the walls.  This proves that progress CAN be made in my house (with months of effort, in this case!)

Of course, the table doesn't look this good right now, there's a bunch of junk covering it :(

Sarah, I was thinking the same thing ... maybe you could get some wall decals in pink, and also pink bedding with brown/white.  That way you don't have to lose the brown color on the walls.
