Anyone else married or engaged to someone who has been medically discharged?

My FI was medically discharged from the Navy several years back after falling down some stairs on a submarine. They thought his physical problems were solely based on that but he has since found out he has RA and, just in the last couple of months, lupus. The VA is trying to cut his benefits (his only source of income currently) as they feel these pre-existing conditions are more of an issue than his ailments related to his on-duty fall. Has anyone else gone through anything similar or  currently in a relationship with a medically discharged veteran still dealing with physical issues? I wasn't sure where or what to post but I felt like I needed some support! The financial stress as well as his physical pain is taxing on us both (him more so obviously!) and our relationship.

  • I'm not.  However, as a Legionnaire, I can tell you that the American Legion has people on staff who act as patient advocates for people going through crap with the VA.  See if you can contact them and get some help.

  • Thank you @iluvmytxrgr. I'll look into that. :)
