NPR: Saw Revolutionary Road

It was really good but very dark. It was different than what I expected but I still liked it. I thought the ending was somewhat predictable. And I am still not sure what I thought of the crazy son.

Has anyone else seen it?

(I am trying to avoid spoilers)

  • I saw it and agree with your assessment :). I think the crazy son served well as a little comic relief/ironic twist that the one deemed crazy seemed the most wise at times.

  • I haven't seen it but I was over at my mom's house the other day and she and some friends were discussing it so I heard their opinions. They weren't big fans. They thought it was overly dramatic and mostly just a big attempt to get Oscar nods for the leads.

I still plan to see it. I'm a huge Kate Winslet fan and I just have a feeling I'm going to appreciate it, even if I do "just want to slap her" (the general opinion of Mom & Friends).

  • Can you tell me what the heck this movie is about?? I don't plan to see it so don't worry about spoilers for my sake, although others might want a warning if you do include some.

I really enjoyed it, although it's not at all uplifting and isn't action-packed. If anyone goes into this movie expecting to come out with a happy ending and a lot of plot, they'd be disappointed.

It's about a young couple in the early 60s (I think). It's very Mad Men -- Leonardo DiCaprio works in NYC and Kate Winslet is a dissatisfied housewife in the 'burbs. She tries to change their situation to make them both happier with their lives, and it's about the aftermath that ensues. Lots of fighting and talking scenes. I liked it because it gives the viewer a lot to think about and discuss afterwards.

  • ...I read the novel in college (modern american lit). I don't remember the first thing about it, which means it didn't make much of an impression.

The Girl is 5. The Boy is 2. The Dog is 1.

    I am the 99%.
  • I loved it, and I'm pretty sure the crazy son was my fave character. Brilliant work by all.
