The Holiday GTG evite was sent to all 135 people in the Nestie address book. If you didn't receive it, post your email address here and we'll get you added to the list.
Some answers to questions that usually get asked:
Q: Who is invited?
A: The holiday GTG is traditionally women only. Normally, nesties do not bring their children (the mommies enjoy the quiet time away with friends), but we leave that to the discretion of the mothers. We don't want to keep away a Nestie who wants to come simply because she couldn't or didn't want to leave her child at home.
Q: What's up with this gift exchange?
A: It's a fun, entertaining, inexpensive gift exchange of items that you might like to receive yourself. Past items have included gift baskets of bath products, gift cards to various stores (HEB, Blockbuster, Starbucks), Williams Sonoma kitchen soap and spatulas, holiday themed blankets and hot cocoa, penguin chalk board, bottles of liquor, boxes of chocolates, bags of coffee and coffee mugs, candles, and home decor items, to name just a few. We play the traditional "gift stealing" method of gift distribution whereby you are randomly assigned a number and presents are opened in numerical order, with people able to choose a wrapped gift or steal one of the opened ones. There's usually lots of stealing and laughter involved.
You do not have to participate in the gift exchange if you do not want to - don't feel obligated if it's not your thing. You can still come to the party, and no one will think anything of it.
Q: What's a Brown Santa?
A: Brown Santa is the charity sponsored by the local county Sheriff's Departments, which provides food and presents to needy families. They'll be doing their gift distributions the week after our party which makes it a great charity for our donations. This is totally optional, but if you'd like to participate, we'll be happy to collect the contributions and deliver them to the Brown Santa dropoff location on behalf of the Austin Nesties.
Q: What should I bring to eat?
A: Whatever you like. Dessert, savory, sweet, main course, whatever you think sounds the best. I do have to ask that we not consume alcoholic beverages as it's against the rules for the location where we are having our party. But I'll be sure to make us some fun punches to compensate.
Looking forward to seeing you all soon!
